Is there a link for beta?

Why a user should use your instance where there are other free alternatives though?

[–] iso@lemy.lol 6 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (5 children)

Who will keep the money? Who will calculate what users will have to pay? Who will verify that the money is being used for the purpose it was paid for? How will bringing crypto payments to fediverse increase users, considering that 99% of people have never used crypto before? What will happen to the data of users who decide not to pay anymore? Let's assume that all instances offer paid membership; wouldn't monopoly occur if a corporate/suspicious instance offers completely free membership? Wouldn't offering paid memberships hold instance admins legally liable?

Who will leave the mainstream platforms that are completely free and have many more users, and then pay and use a platform that is 1 in 100,000 times the size?

Even though I received a donation of about $10 for 1 year, I think the current system should continue. If money is involved in something, it would be abused.

Money involvement = enshitification

Let fediverse be unprofitable.

@ptz@dubvee.org I have cleaned these and some other bot accounts from my instance. I was ok to open registrations to this point because we were able to get reports for almost every activity and we could easily manage them. But unfortunately Lemmy does not have a regulatory mechanism for votes, so I'll keep it manual approval until then.

Also it looks like they're manually creating accounts since we had captcha + email approval in our instance from the beginning. So this means that even with manual approvals, a botnet can be created – just in a delayed manner.

Alright. I’ll check this ASAP.

in 2016, an attempt to overthrow Erdogan and his religious-conservative administration was foiled

It was not a secularist coup. It occurred because of Erdogan's disagreements with his former Islamist partner, Fethullah Gülen.

You're right, that's worse.

Does the receiver instance federate that like object to other instances? If not, it is shit for sure.

[–] iso@lemy.lol 11 points 11 months ago

About $50 monthly for server, backups, image hosting, mails etc.

I’m using Headscale for work and Tailscale for personal use. I tried to use Nebula but it’s not easy as Tailscale.

I noticed that the email service is not working after the new Lemmy update. Because of this, new users cannot verify emails. I am working on it.

Update: it was about TLS. I set it to unencrypted to make it work for now. If you experienced this while registrating, I can fix it if you reach me via e-mail. iso at lemy.lol

I was Xiaomi + LineageOS user for 5 years before bought an iPhone and using it for a year.

My experience is shit so far. Simplicity is good but not for me. I don’t even think iOS is a good OS. Like I shouldn’t open the app to let iOS understand I really read that message. I can’t even rotate the screen to the direction I want.

My only excuse is camera. I even tried Galaxy 23 (or maybe 22, not sure) and don’t liked its camera. Is it placebo effect or what? Is there a really an alternative Android with better or equivalent camera?

Since the m.lemy.lol and v.lemy.lol are short, I wanted to keep this one short too. I don't think its mature as Voyager but it looks good!

Although I was intimidated by the new Lemmy versions, I updated it anyway.

I also opened up.lemy.lol to keep track of crashes.

I noticed the server was down several times. So I upgraded from 3 CPUs, 4G RAM to 4 CPUs, 8G RAM 🎉

For those who are curious, it used to cost 9€, now it costs 15.5€ with backups.

There's been an add-on called Privacy Pass for a few years now. This plugin gives you 30 passes for CF and 5 passes for hCaptcha when you solve one. For example, once you solve 1 captcha for Cloudflare, you will not see 30 captchas again! It will automatically pass.

The good thing is, it's perfectly legal. Powered by Cloudflare and hCaptcha. Valid for Chrome and Firefox.

I've seen that some instances deploying Voyager, formerly known as wefwef, on their own instance ^1^ ^2^ ^3^.

Why not us too? And better yet, we can deploy mlmym too. Which is an old.reddit style alternative. Anyways, here you go:

Note: Official apps are on vger.app and mlmym.org. These are just a clone and has no extras except that lemy.lol is selected by default.

We’re in! (infosec.pub)

We’re finally in join-lemmy.org instances list!

To explore instances (including Beehaw) without restrictions, I created this instance. To be listed on join-lemmy.org, my instance should have at least 5 active users, according here. So would any 4 people consider signing up? The instance host is lemy.lol.

Note that im using lemmony to be in sync with all communities of fediverse.

Update: 5 people signed up except me, my test user account and my community seeder account! Thanks to everyone involved in this!
