Communities on Lemmy Federate are updated every 24-48 hours. You can re-add existing communities to force immediate update. So it's a valid action.

Frankly, I would prefer using Nautilus, VLC in a stable cosmic-comp. I believe the S76 team has strayed bit of the target by working on features that are not urgent (like Cosmic Edit, Cosmic MP). Still, it seems to be progressing pretty well.

I tried daily drive but could not continue due to some critical but minor issues. I will try it again when it is labeled as beta because I really like its speed and appearance.

I wanted to let my users encrypt their payload with my public key so only I can decrypt that payload. Just like how PGP works. Eventually I've used hybrid encryption with AES for encrypting the payload and RSA for encrypting AES secret key.

Just to let you know this post is almost 2 years old :)

I'm glad you're happy 🙏 I'm trying to keep the instance as chill, friendly, and unbiased as possible. I hope we can keep this going in 2025 :)

Due to unpleasant experiences, not the first day :)

I saw these issues before. Its probably about video encoding. I need to tweak media settings.

Though I can play the video in Mlem.

As I understand, it will make things work like Bluesky. Users will be able to use their own domain handles while not hosting an instance as a whole.

Ok. I want to host my own Bluesky and interact with the bsky.app instance. How?

The article is all about excuses.

I agree that fediverse needs a personalized "explore" page in general. For example, this is the only plus feature of Bluesky over Mastodon (in terms of technology). It is obvious how big difference it makes.

I generally avoid the evil algorithms found on other social networks, but I hope we see that in Lemmy.

Same. As an instance admin, I like to read other admins' experiences with new version updates and being aware of possible attacks/issues in the fediverse.

I'll buy iPhone 15 if this ever comes out. But I don't see any news about it yet. Is there an estimated time?

For example my domain is server.tld and I'm serving my instance from lemmy.server.tld. Can I configure Lemmy to use my main domain (server.tld) as handle like @user@server.tld instead of @user@lemmy.server.tld?

But I couldn't find a document for Lemmy. Even if it's not happening now, is there a possibility that it could be done in the distant future? @dessalines@lemmy.ml @nutomic@lemmy.ml

For example, I downloaded Tor network and using it for illegal activities. Can my govt track me? Can US govt track me? I know it encrypts something but if I remember correct, FBI was able to find some Tor users before.

Note: illegal activities was for example. I'm not going to do anything illegal. I'm just planning to serve my instance with a onion address.

I see a lack of TFT community. So I opened one.

I want to set up my own Matrix server, but it seems a bit complicated in the proxy and federation part since I'm not using Nginx or Caddy. Does anyone have an up-to-date guide for Traefik version?

I need to

  • encrypt JSON payload (not just sign)
  • not share private key
  • verify the payload is generated with the shared public key and RSA fitting all of these.

As I've only made auth with JWT so far, I'm not sure. If I use RSA, I guess I have to put the encrypted text in the body.

Do you think it can be used? Any other suggestions?
