Necroposting is a slur by the terminally online against normal people trying to get shot done. They're the reason why every Google search that leads to a forum ends with some guy asking your question and being told to start a new thread instead.

I don't know, I keep hearing this meme but it's the opposite for me. I think about the incredible buffet of interesting things I listen to all the time. I wish I could think multiple things at once or that I didn't have to pause whatever I'm listening to so I can write about it.
On the other hand. Actual ham radio needs exotic and antiquated equipment, and for all of that you will get a clunky walkie-talkie that can't do the walkie part and has extremely limited bandwidth, that would collapse if even 0.1% of the population tried using it.
If you do have all the gear and license and just tried to find how to send even 2400 bits per second to another ham radio operator, it would take weeks just to find one another and setup this feat of engineering.
Modulations are obsolete, not even QAM64. There has been no attempt beam forming on HF so there is only very few channels that can be used concurently.
All in all it's like CB but with extra steps.
A hobby, not a reliable, practical method of mass communication and very stuck in its ways where preserving the spectrum is more valued than communication.

The main point is that Pictrs handles the files and it doesn't handle mp4 files without a video track It seems it also strips audio tracks out of mp4 files And it also rejects mp4 files with a bitrate too low.
So there is simply no way to post less than 1 megabyte audio file on here. It has to be stored externally and users have to leave the site to see it.
In other words, there will not be music on Lemmy
Also I found that admins and moderators can modify user comments and impersonate them without recourse or even notice.
Also, all up and down votes on the platform are public but admins and moderators have decided to keep this to themselves. Anyone can see them, you just need to host a lemmy instance then you can see how makes any and all votes. But they don't want the users to see this for "drama", they say. Of course this makes finding astroturf campaign difficult, it also makes content discovery remain a server side thing. In other words they reserve the ability to choose what you see.
All in all, really unhappy with lemmy right now, I think this place is just Reddit with new tyrants, not the decentralized haven that it was sold has. In fact many of Lemmy design fight against federation, such as the lack of community agglomeration in the default view which ensures big instances and big communities get bigger and not decentralized.
