"Paging all artists! STAT! Your sketchbook is officially on the operating table. Whether you envision a world-saving surgeon, a mad scientist with questionable ethics and fantastic hair, or a duck in a lab coat with a PhD in bread-related illnesses, now’s the time to get hilariously clinical with your creativity. Let your ink stethoscope explore every weird and wonderful meaning of the word. From time-traveling doctors in phone boxes to plague doctors with suspiciously stylish vibes. And speaking of real-life heroism, a shoutout to our teammate who just had his appendix evicted! Don’t worry, he’s recovering nicely thanks to some truly A+ medical pros. If ever there was a moment to appreciate the art of medicine and the medicine of art, this is it.

Remember, Inktober is about going back to basics, no digital scalpel needed. Just pen, paper, and your ability to bring characters, chaos, and creativity to life with a single confident line. So scrub in, grab your ink, and perform some creative surgery on that blank page. Whether it’s sketchy symptoms, cartoon CPR, or a full-blown inky ER drama, we want to see your visual prescriptions for artistic brilliance. This week, the doctor is IN… your sketchbook."

"As in the lion, the zodiac sign, the Renaissance turtle, or even your overly dramatic cat who thinks it’s the king of the living room. Whether you’re channeling the fiery flair of a July-born diva, the shaggy splendor of a jungle monarch, or crafting a moody, ink-drenched portrait of a lion contemplating its mane in a mirror, this prompt is your chance to get bold, get fierce, and definitely get a little weird.

Inktober is all about stripping things back to the basics—pen, paper, and that untamed imagination of yours. No need for 37 digital brushes or layer folders. Just good old ink and some glorious mess. So embrace the roar. Maybe your Leo is a cosmic lion surfing solar flares. Maybe it’s a fashion-forward feline sashaying down the savannah runway. Or maybe, just maybe, it’s Leonardo da Vinci riding a lion while painting a self-portrait with a lion. Look, we’re not here to judge your process, just to cheer you on while you go full majestic mode.

So uncage that creativity, sharpen those claws (or nibs), and let your art strut onto the page with the full drama and dazzle of a Leo in its prime. This week, make your mark loud, proud, and undeniably inkredible."

"Strap on your utility belts, polish your pens, and prepare to unleash greatness—because this week’s Inktober 52 prompt is SUPER! That’s right: SUPER strong, SUPER fast, SUPER weird, SUPER… whatever-you-want-it-to-be. This is your official invitation to let your creativity leap over tall expectations in a single bound. Maybe it’s a heroic hamster with laser whiskers, a grandma with super-strength knitting needles, or a tired artist whose only power is finishing a sketch before the coffee kicks in (relatable). Whether you channel comic book energy or take a more unexpected turn—think “Super Moldy Cheese vs. The Clean Fridge League”—the only limit is your imagination.

Remember, Inktober is about getting back to the essentials: ink, paper, and the wild ideas you can wrangle from your mind with nothing but a pen and some nerve. No layers. No ctrl+Z. Just raw, unapologetic creativity. The kind that smudges. The kind that flows. The kind that reminds us why we started drawing in the first place. So take the leap, embrace the chaos, and draw something super. Super heartfelt. Super absurd. Super messy. Super YOU. This week, let your pen save the world—one inky line at a time."

"Artists, grab your pens, brace your sketchbooks, and tighten up, because this week’s Inktober 52 prompt is SARDINES—yes, the famously squishy, suspiciously shiny little fish that know a thing or two about togetherness.

Whether you’re packing them in a tin or cramming them into a metaphor for your morning subway commute, sardines are the ultimate lesson in spatial economy (and oily commitment). Think of this as your chance to explore negative space, tight compositions, and the undeniable charm of something that looks like it smells. Will your sardines be crammed and cranky? Fancy and fashionable? Leading a revolution against the can? Up to you, Picasso!

As always, this is ink and paper—no frills, no filters, just you and your pen, reconnecting with the raw, slippery joy of drawing. So crack that tin of inspiration, take a whiff of weirdness, and let's get sketching. After all, what’s more basic—and brilliant—than a fish with an attitude?"

"Ah, home—that sacred (and sometimes chaotic) place where mismatched socks mysteriously multiply, coffee mugs disappear into couch cushions, and the lighting is always just wrong for selfies but perfect for dramatic still-life sketches. This week, we’re inviting you to ink your way back to your creative roots with a theme that’s as personal as it is universal: HOME.

Whether it’s a creaky front porch, your childhood bedroom wallpaper (still haunted by Garfield stickers), or the emotional safety of wherever your sketchbook opens—this prompt is your chance to explore what “home” really means. Cozy or cluttered, loud or lonely, physical or metaphorical—draw the nooks, crannies, heartbeats, and quirks that define your version of home.

Bonus points for including that one chair nobody is allowed to sit in (except the cat). Ink it, scan it, smudge it lovingly—and above all, remember: this is about expression, not perfection. Grab your pens, banish the erasers, and make yourself at home on the page. 🖤"

"This week’s prompt is Cancer—and before your brain scuttles off in the wrong direction, let’s be clear: we’re talking stars, claws, and cosmic crustaceans. This is your cue to dive into the zodiac seas, where moody moon vibes meet pincers sharp enough to slice through even the densest art block. Think constellation charts, lunar tides, and that one crab at the beach who walks sideways like it’s a runway strut.

CANCER is all about duality: tough on the outside, soft watercolor feelings on the inside. A little guarded, a little nostalgic, and probably hoarding all your Micron pens under a rock somewhere. Whether you interpret it as the astrological sign, a celestial symbol, or a literal shell-dweller with trust issues, this is your invitation to get ink-deep in creativity.

So grab your pen. Your paper. And maybe a touch of moonlight. Whether your crab is magical, moody, monstrous, or magnificent—it’s time to let your lines wander sideways and your imagination click into high gear. Don’t be shy. Be crabby.

Happy inking!"

"Artists, sharpen your nibs and adjust your sundials — this week, we’re heading straight into the cosmic tug-of-war that is the SOLSTICE! Whether you're basking in the endless daylight of summer or brooding through the mysterious gloom of winter, this prompt invites you to explore the extremes. It’s the moment when the sun shows off (or totally ghosts us), and nature leans into its dramatic flair. Perfect inspiration, if you ask us.

Think ancient rituals, celestial alignments, seasonal transformations, or that one crow who definitely knows too much. Want to ink a snow-drenched forest at midnight? Go for it. Prefer a sun-drenched stone circle with suspiciously symmetrical shadows? We’re here for that, too. Whether you gravitate toward the mystical, the natural, or the just plain weird, solstice is your chance to let light and darkness battle it out on the page.

Remember, Inktober 52 is all about returning to the basics: ink, paper, and pure creative energy. No pressure to go digital or fancy — just you, your pen, and the vast universe doing something cool twice a year. So tilt that metaphorical Earth of yours and get drawing — because the solstice waits for no one."

"Let’s dew something magical this week, shall we? Whether you’re a dawn-chaser, a mood-illustrator, or someone who just really likes the idea of water that shows up uninvited on your lawn, this week’s prompt is dripping (yes, we went there) with possibilities. "Dew" may seem small — just a sparkle on a leaf or a shimmer on your window — but in the right hands (yours!), it’s pure atmosphere. Think mystery, serenity, quiet beginnings, or even alien slime. Interpret boldly. Ink wildly.

Remember, Inktober 52 is your weekly nudge back to basics: real ink, real paper, real you. No layers. No undo button. Just the raw joy of drawing with whatever pen’s nearest and whatever weird concept just woke up in your brain. This prompt is not just about moisture; it’s about motion. About life that stirs while the world sleeps. About the breath between darkness and day.

So whether you’re sketching a fog-drenched forest, a mischievous morning sprite, or a coffee cup sweating in the dawn light, let this little word open up a whole new world. Now grab your pens, fire up your imagination, and let's dew this!"

"That majestic, slightly chaotic aerial acrobat of the insect world. Equal parts dragon and dart, this little speedster zips through the air like it’s late for a very important pollen appointment. Whether you see dragonflies as nature’s glittering helicopters or the original fantasy familiars, there’s plenty of inspiration packed into those iridescent wings.

Inktober 52 is here to remind you to keep it classic: ink and paper, raw and real. No undos, no filters—just the brave beauty of black lines and bold choices. So lean into the whimsy, the weirdness, or the wonder. Will you sketch an elegant close-up? A sci-fi mech with gossamer wings? A sword-wielding bug knight on a leaf battlefield? The only rule is: get drawing. And remember—if your pen starts buzzing, it’s working.

Let’s see those dragonflies take off!"

What’s DOS2 stand for?

"Dust off your pens and get ready to draw like the wind’s at your back. Think cowboy boots with a jingle, wild stallions kicking up dust, or that little jab of motivation that gets you moving when your creative engine’s been idling. Whether you're sketching the grit of the old west or just leaning into that rugged, untamed vibe, this is your chance to loosen up and let the ink fly.

Inktober’s all about getting back to basics — ink, paper, and whatever’s rattling around in that wild brain of yours. So channel your inner outlaw, chase the horizon, and see where this dusty trail of inspiration takes you. No pressure, no polish — just draw. And if all else fails, slap a cowboy hat on it and call it done.

Don’t be stinky, let’s get inky."

"Time to embrace your inner twin, double your ideas, and maybe argue with yourself about what to draw first. This prompt is all about duality—the cosmic kind, the human kind, or the kind that happens when you sketch something, hate it, and immediately start over.

For the zodiac fans, Gemini is the sign of the twins, full of curiosity, contradictions, and conversations (with yourself or others). It’s a symbol of dual perspectives, shifting identities, and seeing both sides of the story. So whether you go with mystical mirror images, doppelgängers, or two-headed creatures with attitude, there’s a lot to explore here.

And for the space nerds (we see you), Gemini was also the name of NASA’s pre-Apollo missions. Two astronauts squeezed into a capsule the size of a compact car, orbiting Earth and testing out the skills that would eventually land us on the Moon. It’s a beautiful metaphor for collaboration, tension, and trust—which also sounds a lot like trying to finish an Inktober prompt before midnight.

Remember, this challenge is about getting back to the roots of drawing: ink on paper, no fuss. It’s not about perfection. It’s about process, play, and giving yourself permission to try something bold (or strange… or both).

So go ahead—draw the stars, the astronauts, the mischief-makers, or that bizarre idea that only makes sense to you and your sketchbook. Just make sure you’ve got a pen in hand and some paper nearby. Gemini's calling, and it's got twice the inspiration.

Let’s get inky."

"That’s right—time to embrace the weird, wonderful world of mushrooms, molds, spores, and all the other squishy, shadow-dwelling lifeforms that pop up when you least expect them. Whether you're sketching a fairytale toadstool, a moody shelf fungus, or just a mushroom with a great personality, this is your sign to let loose and get a little spore-tastic.

Inktober is all about returning to the roots—ink, paper, and the kind of quiet focus that doesn’t come with an undo button. So put the tablet down, shake out your pens, and get weird with it. Try some hatching, cross-hatching, maybe even… stippling (we see you overachievers). There’s something deeply satisfying about coaxing a whole little ecosystem out of black ink and white space.

Let your lines meander like roots underground, or stand bold like a lone chanterelle in a sea of leaf litter. Just don’t be afraid to lean into the strange—fungi are nature’s original oddballs, after all. Go forth, draw boldly, and remember: if someone says your art looks like mold, you’re probably on the right track."

This is great!

Another +1 for Arctic.

I was using Mlem and Voyager before, but when I tried Arctic out I really enjoyed how it played well with video posts (excluding youtube, they just load and you can view them without navigating away) whereas the others would open the link through the in app browser.

Edit: Mlem just got an update/overhaul so it may be worth checking out as well.

Great perspective and hatching! :)

I'm not smart enough to suss out what that means, but it looks great! :)
