My pleasure! I'm just continuing to repost some of my favourite articles from over the years on Reddit. :)

It's known as the "Hedonic Treadmill," and I have posted about it here. People get a small rush when they acquire something new, and mistakenly believe that larger/better acquisitions will result in better/longer good feelings. Really, it's the novelty of the thing that makes us feel that way, and novelty inevitably fades. The thing is, many people never realize this and end up chasing that feeling for their entire lives, hence: eternally walking on the Hedonic Treadmill that takes them nowhere.

Some people are less susceptible to this than others. If you don't have a particularly addictive personality, or if you are not in the fog of consumerism as a positive thing, you will probably not struggle with this as much as someone who has one or both of those traits.

I'm really thankful for it, so thank you for pushing back. One of the biggest reasons I chose Lemmy over Kbin was the lack of overall user score. I'm fine with posts and comments having a score — it sort of helps one determine what is and isn't good content for a community, or what might not be good advice — but summing those up on your user profile only leads to weird score measuring contests and a sort of "number go up" addictive cycle. Thank you also for giving us the ability to hide scores if we don't want to see them.

Why is the background for the video the cover of Ranarop by Gjallarhorn?

I'm sorry if you don't feel that human lives have inherent value.

Nobody said you had to switch.

Given that it would require an entire rewrite of the app, and Apple is no friend to open source software, I very much doubt it will happen.

Capitalism doesn't set your value as a human being.

Agreed, and it's a problem we need to nip in the bud before it becomes entrenched.

I moderated two subreddits over 1m users, one over 250k users, and a handful over 10k users.

Every. single. one. of my team members has left, except for one on one of the tiny subreddits.
