Capitalism is good at creating things, but terrible at maintaining their quality over time, because at the end of the day profits don't always go hand in hand with product quality

Are they trying to cause a 2nd Chernobyl with their own country being literally next to Ukraine?
It gives me hope for the future of the internet, even if the average layman never learns or cares about it all. It's interesting to think that the Internet started this way as well, it was a complete nerd thing at first and nothing like we know it today.
I hope I can contribute to either kbin or lemmy once I find some time, probably Lemmy since I know Rust and nothing of PHP. Perhaps it can be a fun way to learn PHP as well though
Let's not create an instance war already...
When an instance has a specific rule, no NSFW for instance, it can't be receiving that content from other instances and serving it to its users because it breaks its own rules. You might want NSFW content but your instance's users agreed to that rule, probably because that's what they wanted out of the instance.
I think this point has been overexaggerated a bit. Sure, the main devs might support the CCP and actively try to silence critisicm about it, but the software is open source and decentralised for exactly this purpose. Anyone can fork it and host it themselves, and users can use any other instance which allows free speech with practically no difference in user experience.
I think both Kbin and Lemmy are great software, I am using both hoping that at least one of the two ends up becoming popular
