Wow, yeah, my cake day is in only a few days! I didn't realize. Cheers!

But the title is not correct?

Per the article -

[Sherman] later said he was incorrect, and that he had based his comments on photos and footage he had seen that turned out to not be a representation of Guard members in Los Angeles.

He said that as of Wednesday, none of the troops has detained a protester.

Of course, it's always possible he's not telling the truth.

IANAL but was wondering these things myself, and here's my understanding:

Whoever, except in cases and under circumstances expressly authorized by the Constitution or Act of Congress, willfully uses any part of the Army, the Navy, the Marine Corps, the Air Force, or the Space Force as a posse comitatus or otherwise to execute the laws shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both.

18 U.S.C § 1385 - Use of Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Space Force as posse comitatus; amended ... Dec. 27, 2021, 135 Stat. 1904.

Trump cited 10 U.S.C § 12406 in his presidential memorandum "ordering into Federal service the appropriate members and units of the National Guard under this authority," thus no longer excluding them from the Act.

Whenever— (1) the United States, or any of the Commonwealths or possessions, is invaded or is in danger of invasion by a foreign nation; (2) there is a rebellion or danger of a rebellion against the authority of the Government of the United States; or (3) the President is unable with the regular forces to execute the laws of the United States;

the President may call into Federal service members and units of the National Guard of any State in such numbers as he considers necessary to repel the invasion, suppress the rebellion, or execute those laws. Orders for these purposes shall be issued through the governors of the States or, in the case of the District of Columbia, through the commanding general of the National Guard of the District of Columbia.

10 U.S.C. § 12406 - National Guard in Federal service: call

It has been argued that the requirements for 10 U.S.C § 12406 have not been met, but also that "the president likely has the authority to call out the National Guard in a merely supportive role," as reported by CBS News (emphasis mine.)

I unfortunately don't have time to summarize the nuances, requirements, and exceptions to the Insurrection Act as they apply to this situation at the moment, which, as others pointed out, is another exception to the Posse Comitatus Act, but I hope this at least helps some. I am in no way defending the deployment of the National Guard or Marines in this situation, just trying to understand the facts myself and hopefully provide value to others.

Nice try, peddling this manufactured funny on us.

"It" would be the subject. Time, or tense would be gleaned from the verb conjugation.

E.g. "it is raining" versus "it was raining," where "is" and "was" are two conjugations of "being."

The question is more in reference to the subject, "it." In which case, as partial_accumen describes, "it" is a pronoun representing "the status of the weather."

Definitely not. If one company checks, it could impact your prospects at other places in your area.

Second others on the experience and certs, certs, certs. These are what got me

Tailoring your resume to the job description and asking good questions in interviews goes a long way in my experience, as well. E.g. "what would you most value?" (referring to certs, knowledge) and "how can I be a better candidate?"

If it's a company I want to be working for, they're going to be hiring for attitude above all. Otherwise, if they're looking for someone plug-and-play they're desperate to hire, and may be understaffed or facing other internal difficulties.

Murder rate

a quantity, amount, or degree of something measured per unit of something else

- Merriam-Webster (emphasis mine)

Both police killings and murders are increasing, but police murders are increasing faster year over year than homicides are increasing.

Regardless of the administration, the US is increasingly a police state controlled by an oligarchy.

imo, we have to fight on all fronts. While some may argue that it's a waste of time, I believe the work for short term reform is still important. Even if the long-term goal is something more. While I hold a more revolutionary ideology, I've comrades who are doing what they can in the existing system.

Something I've heard recently is, "diversity in tactics." I completely understand where you're coming from with non-violence being an appeal for legitimacy.

You want the police to be on your side.

This, however, I completely disagree with you on. Maybe we want them to be, but it's wishful thinking at this point. The police are not on our side, and have shown such again and again. Their actions often actually escalate situations.

I think of my behavior not as violent or non-violent, but whether I'm escalating or de-escalating a situation. In most cases, I'm going to be trying to de-escalate a situation. But, depending on the action I'm attending, may decide instead to respond to agitators in-kind.

Join the Grand Rapids Alliance on April 27, the start of the Christopher Schurr trial, to support the Lyoya family, and demand justice and community control of the police!

Event Details:

  • Date: April 27, 2025
  • Time: 3:00 PM
  • Location: Outside the Kent County Courthouse

I've created whatnow.site (honestly, heavily inspired by Seahorse's post) after my partner and I said to each other, "okay, what can we do now to fight this?"

The goal of this page is to be a (somewhat collaborative) collection of resources to help people get involved in the fight against fascism (primarily focused in the US.)

When I have the time next, I plan to include a section on technology choices -- similar to these posts I've seen floating around on the Fediverse.

I'm wanting to get this out there and get some constructive criticism on it. Gimme all you got!
