The article specifically mentions that fewer deaths are attributable to vehicle emissions than to wood heaters:

Calling bullshit on that number....

Traffic pollution likely causes more than 11,000 premature deaths in Australia a year,

because based on what I've heard others have gone through, it's clear to me that I've had it much better than the average minority.

Even Warren Buffett has pointed this out, when asked why he managed to be so wealthy, he said (paraphrasing) there was a lot of luck at the start, being born in The US, being white and being a man that made it easer then for lots of others.

I think it was also pointed out by Michael Oppenheimer that he was not at all concered with studying Einstein's brain but really concerd the next one was slaving away in some field somewhere in a developing nation, with zero opportunity.

Well, one i terviwed is a qualified GP who is an abbot(ess) of the Russian Orthodox church in western Sydney

I think it's safe to say her indoctrination by religion has gone a long way to shaping her world view. Parents presumably ?

Moat rewards cards cost though don't they, are there any free ones ? I have an NAB Qantas one that's "free" but that's grandfathered to no annual fee becase I own a bunch of shares, (this feature is no longer available BTW), otherwise I think its $275 per annum.

Macquarie said the 4.5 per cent annual interest rate for up to $2 million would be paid without any conditions.

Still no hoops

Macquarie is probably your best option then? Zero hoops 4.5% (cirrentky) and a ceiling of $2Million

Cold Nordic countries are being seared by “truly unprecedented” heat, as hot weather strengthened and lengthened by carbon pollution continues to roast northern Europe.

The work is scholarly, but the straight-talking Australian can also be direct, such as when setting out how a global collapse could be avoided. “Don’t be a dick” is one of the solutions proposed,

Well, we do keep electing those that would make it worse, so perhaps we're as "guilty" as they are ?

The lessons he has drawn are often striking: people are fundamentally egalitarian but are led to collapses by enriched, status-obsessed elites, while past collapses often improved the lives of ordinary citizens.

Today’s global civilisation, however, is deeply interconnected and unequal and could lead to the worst societal collapse yet, he says. The threat is from leaders who are “walking versions of the dark triad” – narcissism, psychopathy and Machiavellianism – in a world menaced by the climate crisis, nuclear weapons, artificial intelligence and killer robots.

An epic analysis of 5,000 years of civilisation argues that a global collapse is coming unless inequality is vanquished

I'd agree with that, inequality is just another toxic symptom of our current civilization, like pollution, climate change, environmental degredation etc.

We can’t put a date on Doomsday, but by looking at the 5,000 years of [civilisation], we can understand the trajectories we face today – and self-termination is most likely,” says Dr Luke Kemp at the Centre for the Study of Existential Risk at the University of Cambridge.

“I’m pessimistic about the future,” he says. “But I’m optimistic about people.”

I'd clarify my postion as, surely it's obvious civilisation can't last but humans will, what comes after ? Interesting qiestion but entirely irrelevant

She moved to Moscow from Miami in 2019 — before Mr Putin's new scheme was introduced — seeking to escape racism in the United States.

Earlier this month, the Black woman took to social media with a bloodied face, saying she'd been attacked by bigoted neighbours

In a video uploaded on Instagram this month, Ms Villa says her neighbours changed the locks to her apartment and cut off her electricity.

A 2021 report by Amnesty International said "violent racism" was "out of control" in Russia.

It said attacks, including killings, were reported with "shocking regularity" and that "anyone who does not look typically Russian" was at risk.

Also talks of the Texas family posted elsewhere in here. Still alive ... Apparently.

Imagining a world without prisons might seem like a fantasy. But for the US geographer and prison abolitionist Ruth Wilson Gilmore, it’s not just a possibility but a necessity.
