Australian here happy with Runbox, from an european country that respects privacy, unlike the 5 eyes. Unfortunately Australia is not a good country to get a cloud service.

If you know the people in jail, maybe you could make a post about it? Though I don't know if that's invasion of privacy. But you posting about it here already kind of makes you like a celebrity to me. Stuff I read about but I would not think I would actually talk to someone who was in the news. I don't know anyone who was involved in that. I don't even think I know people who ended up in prison.

You have such a positive point of view. It's interesting seeing how different people can be. I would focus obsessively on the part of that money that goes to those fossil fuel billionaires. You are focusing on the part where it goes to community programs.

Though I don't know where it goes. I just assumed it goes to them, like a big part of my taxes that also go to fund the military.

About activism, I've done a fair bit and it affected my life a lot. I'm an old pessimist guy. I just try not to help to make the problem worse now (making sure I don't fund them as much as I can). These things affect me too much. If I had to pay a fine for the activism I did in the past I could end up doing something really bad like destroying my life or someone else's. I'm a little too radical and I end up turning people away from my causes because of it. Nowadays I try (and fail) to not even talk about to people because I end up making them hate the cause.

I posted it here because I think most of the community agrees with it. Circlejerk you could say. If it was on reddit it would just lead to endless meaningless fights and abuses.

It's not activism. It just drives me crazy. I can't ignore the stuff I'm seeing and i can't concentrate on anything. If i want to promote some changes that would not be the way to do it. It's just that's it's like someone putting alcohol in my eyes. I have to turn it off or leave. When i can't i just leave.

I thought that could be him but i didn't see on wikipedia that he owns channel 9. I heard much about him but I've rarely seen his face.

I wouldn't doubt he is sad. To be that evil you have to have something wrong going on in your brain or life.

I hope it works out ok for you and others. I really admire that. Not only are you fighting for us for free but you're actually paying a massive price.

So it's the same channel i see everywhere that makes me want to throw up. I keep changing channel in places i see that on and people change back, like in gyms. People around here actually like to feel their neurons melting. It doesn't just happen to be the default, it's what they want to see. They go after it.

I don't see much hope for this population.

Sorry, your scenario is too stretched for me to comment on it.

I can only comment regarding their patent system and I 100% agree that the north american patent system is a cancer on the entire world. A massive problem that needs addressing. But as mentioned before, you can worry, and work on more than one problem without invalidating them. But that problem involves much more variables and powerful companies/ people/ countries to be resolved. I won't comment if that is the solution for the problem you present since I think it's more complicated than that. But, again, I think destroying the north american patent system would benefit the whole mankind. I just have no idea how that can be solved without the whole world going against them.

The rest, I guess I can only say that you can't judge which battles people decide to fight, if you agree they are fighting something bad. You fight to demolish their patent system and others fight to end their imperialism. Both fights are valid and everyone except the abusers would benefit from them.

I'm not arab, but as he said, you can worry about more than one thing. But I think the biggest difference with your tuberculosis example is: One is a problem due to lack of action, the other a problem due to direct action. You have to be competent to do something about one, while the other, just by not doing anything (by not giving them loads of money and weapons) they would already solve the problem.

So one problem requires effort to be solved, the other, they are putting effort to create the problem and it would be as easy as just not doing it. In theory pressuring them in just not doing something should be easier than doing other work.

Put in a different view, what would be your worse behaviour?

-A person you know died of turberculosis and you didn't take them to the hospital

-A person you know died because you shoot them, or you gave someone a gun and money and told them they could shoot them?

Which action would get more people against you?
