Write about a character in a new, strange situation!

ShindoL:

What a great tune to start my day to. Thanks for sharing!

I would word it as: I should not have to allow strangers to execute arbitrary code on my PC just so I can view some text and/or images.

A Short Hike is A+ cosy for sure!

Damn, I knew shrinkflation was getting bad but this is crazy

I really like this question, because it is not something I've previously given much thought to. Here is what I've come up with, in no particular order:

  1. Dense atmosphere. There's a lot I could talk about here, but suffice it to say that the game needs to have The Vibes.
  2. High interactivity. I'm spending most of my time engaged with the game world, as opposed to transitional elements like menus, lobbies, or cutscenes.
  3. Low friction. This doesn't necessarily mean no challenges, but I shouldn't have to feel challenged if I'm not up for it.
  4. No pressure to advance. I can just dick around for hours at a time for any reason, without consequence.

Viral replication is just biological marketing

Maybe we could turn it around: adblockers are tools that block ads and other kinds of dark traffic such as trackers and malicious scripts.

This can be applied generally to any activity, but when interacting with Lemmy starts making you feel anxious or upset, then it's too much. It's OK to spend a lot of time online, just make sure to take care of your mental health!

No webRTC apps work for me at all in Firefox. Teams, Zoom, Google Meet, whatever. I can connect but there is no video or audio in either direction.

I'm putting together a gaming system for the kind of person who needs help if their TV is set to the wrong input. Obviously I'm committing myself to providing a certain amount of tech support no matter what, but I'm wondering if any of these modern Linux distros can provide a user experience at least on par with Windows in terms of ease of use and reliability for someone who doesn't know how to do much more than check their email and log in to Steam.

So far, I've looked at Bazzite, Cachy, Nobara, and PopOS based on what I commonly see recommended here. I'm leaning toward Bazzite based on its stated goal of being friendly to Linux newcomers, and the quality and amount of available documentation. Are there any other distros I've missed, or other considerations that might sway my preference?

I'd also like to hear about your subjective experiences with Linux gaming:

  1. What distro are you using for gaming?
  2. How long have you used it?
  3. How often have you had issues that require Linux knowledge and/or searching the web to solve?
  4. Have you had any other minor/annoying complaints?
