It’s built for swimming

It’s not built for hot water and soap

UX consistency across apps is important. It removes one more layer of pointless abstraction. Almost everything behaves the same.

Third party support. Apps and games are generally prioritised for iPhones. Physical accessories are very easy to find, often remarkably cheap, and offer a lot of variety in functionality. This market just doesn’t exist for Androids.

MagSafe. It’s boring, invisible, and so seamless. Probably my favourite iPhone feature. I think I’ve plugged this current phone in twice since I’ve owned it.

The social clout people don’t like to talk about. iPhones are absolutely a status symbol in the same way cars are.

Stickers in iOS17. I love making stickers from all my pet photos, or pasting photos of my friends into scenes from movies or historical settings.

I also love how iPhones almost look like jewellery today. They are sickeningly pretty objects.

Customer service is just good. AppleCare+ should just be the default option when buying a new phone.

Let your wrist breathe. Damn.

The sensors are pretty good. A little bit of wiggle room isn’t going to lead to cruddy data. Unless you’re very active, there’s no real need to clamp the watch to your wrist so hard.

Personal rule of thumb for any watch is to still be able to just about fit my pinky finger through the strap while it’s on my wrist.

I’ve been searching for the perfect case for over a decade.

Good cases exist, but I’ve never found the perfect one.

My Fitbit was basically a separate device.

My Apple Watch is an extension of my phone.

They each have their benefits. Fitbit is really good at presenting its data in a digestible way. AW is really good at pretty much everything else. Neither are bad though.

I have a preference, but mostly because I’m already quite invested in the Apple ecosystem, so any device that acts as an extension of this will be a priority for me.

I like boring. Boring works.

I’ve dropped one phone four inches on a table and it shattered.

I’ve dropped another straight into concrete from 3 feet the day I bought it by being too excited and opening the box as soon as I left the store. It had a minor scuff on the chassis.

Almost every example I’ve seen of the AppStore has been compromised on some way, either shifty data practices, crappy monetisation methods, or just kind of bad.

Apple only has to nail the basics to make almost every single competitor on the market obsolete overnight.

My S6, even when running it as a beta, has never experienced any of these battery bugs.

I still get a consistent 30 hours out of it
