The AirPods Pro 2 are not the only thing that received an update. Apple has also said that the EarPods can also be purchased with the USB Type-C. Another thing that you can do is charge your AirPods using your iPhone 16 by simply connecting the cables on each end and beginning charging. It is not quite like the reverse wireless charging that we see, but it definitely is going to be faster than charging wirelessly.

Apple has finally brought the Dynamic Island to the iPhone 15 models, The devices are now a step closer to the 'Pro' models. The iPhone 15 features a 6.1-inch display while the iPhone 15 Plus comes with a 6.7-inch display. On the back, the iPhone 15 models now come with a frosted glass finish similar to the iPhone 14 Pro models with a contrasted camera plateau. The matte finish also brings the iPhone 15 a step closer to the 'Pro' models in terms of looks.

The devices also come with an upgraded camera system that matches the likes of the iPhone 14 Pro models. The iPhone 15 now features a 48MP camera similar to the 'Pro' models. The new camera system opens doors to 1x and 2x optical zoom modes alongside the 0.5x ultra-wide angle mode. The iPhone 15 models also feature a new portrait upgrade with a synthetic bokeh effect. This will aid in better low-light performance. Furthermore, the portrait mode would be automatically enabled in the main camera mode.

In terms of design, the Apple Watch Series 9 features the same chassis as the Series 8. The edge-to-edge display is now double the brightness of the Apple Watch Series 8, reaching all the way up to 2000 nits. Additionally, the display can also go as 1 nit if you want to save battery life. Externally, the wearable is pretty similar to the Series 8 but carries a plethora of upgrades on the inside.

The Apple Watch Series 9 comes with a brand-new S9 chip, a major upgrade from the S8 chip on the Series 8. The S-series of chips for the Apple Watch has remained more or less unchanged since the S6 chip on the Apple Watch Series 6. The S9 chip features enhanced computational and graphical performance thanks to the 5.6 billion transistors. According to Apple, the chip is 60 percent faster than the S6 chip with a 2 times faster neural engine.

Sen. John Fetterman (D-Penn.) on Tuesday feigned a shocked reaction when asked about Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s (R-Calif.) announcement that he would direct House committees to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Biden.

“Oh my god, really?” Fetterman said, raising his hands to the side of his head, when asked by an NBC journalist about the McCarthy news.

“Oh my gosh, you know, oh, it’s devastating,” Fetterman continued, before laughing audibly.

“Ooo, don’t do it. Please don’t do it! Oh, no! Oh, no,” he added, before walking off.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has told Sen. Ron Wyden that it plans to stop using commercially sourced smartphone location data at the end of this month, Wyden’s office told 404 Media.

For years CBP, like many other U.S. law enforcement agencies, has bought access to location data harvested from smartphones, which one former location data company worker previously told me is useful for tracking “herds of people.” Another previously said it can be used to monitor specific targets too. Since the agencies paid a commercial vendor for the data, the agencies have generally not acquired a warrant or other court order to obtain the information; a move that critics say skirts the Fourth Amendment.

It is unclear why exactly CBP is stopping the use of such data. But lawmakers and campaigners who have pushed back against CBP and other agencies’ purchase of location data are welcoming the news, while demanding more protections against data use in the future.

A Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on book bans took a racy turn Tuesday, as Republican senators and a witness read scenes of various sexual content into the congressional record to defend the banning of multiple titles from U.S. schools.

...

The hearing on book bans was called as multiple Republican-led states have made it easier for books to be challenged in classrooms and as school board meetings have been flooded with arguments on what is appropriate for children to read.

The American Library Association said the number of book challenges in the United States doubled between 2021 and 2022.

...

Republicans and Democrats found common ground in agreeing there are books that are inappropriate for some children, but Democrats said the argument that all the books under discussion are sexually explicit is a scapegoat for the issue.

“No one is advocating for sexually explicit content to be available in an elementary school library or in [the] children’s section of the library,” Judiciary Chairman Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said. “That’s a distraction from the real challenge. I understand and respect that parents may choose to limit what their children read, especially at younger ages. My wife and I did. Others do, too. But no parent should have the right to tell another parent’s child what they can and cannot read in school or at home. Every student deserves access to books that reflect their experiences and help them better understand who they are.”

Unity has announced dramatic changes to its Unity Engine business model which will see its introduce a monthly fee per game install beginning on 1st January next year - a move that has already send shockwaves across the development community.

Unity - the engine behind countless acclaimed games including Tunic, Cuphead, Hollow Knight, Citizen Sleeper, RimWorld, Outer Wilds, Fall Guys, Ori and the Blind Forest, and Cities: Skylines - was previously licensed to developers using a royalty free model built around subscriptions tiers. Anyone whose revenue or funding was less than $100,000 over the course of the year (or who didn't want access to features such as the ability to remove the Unity splash screen) could stick to the free Unity Personal license, while a Unity Plus subscription was required up to $200,000 in revenue, and a Unity Pro or above subscription was needed for more.

Today, NVIDIA released a new Game Ready driver (version 537.34) for its GeForce graphics cards to deliver pre-release optimization for NetherRealm's hotly anticipated fighting game Mortal Kombat 1 and NEOWIZ's Soulslike game Lies of P.

Both games are set to launch on September 19th and will support NVIDIA DLSS 2 (Super Resolution). According to NVIDIA's RTX 40 Series benchmarks, Lies of P can achieve up to 1.9X higher frame rates at 4K resolution and max settings with DLSS set to Performance Mode.

NVIDIA also said it is pushing an over-the-air (OTA) update that enables Resizable Bar in Starfield for up to 5% performance benefits for RTX 40 GPUs. We had recommended manually enabling ReBar in our Starfield tweaking guide, and it's nice to have it officially confirmed by NVIDIA. The OTA update will be released to all users of this driver as well as the previous one (537.17).

Around 75 crocodiles made a break for it when a lake in Maoming, Guangdong province overflowed.

While some were recaptured, local authorities shot or electrocuted others "for safety reasons".

would be super nice to have, especially if we could aggregate stats around how much time was spent on each of these bills (eg. debate time, etc).

Sadly, I suspect that most people wouldn't care. They could likely turn these into a badge of honor saying they're fighting against the deep state or whatever crazy nonsense people believe in now.

Same. It was price/performance this round, and some decent AMD sales drove that home. I'd love DLSS & ray-tracing, but they're not worth the premium atm, especially with AMD slowly improving their ray-tracing performance in some newer games.

Do folks really not care about efficiency?

I'm curious if efficiency is less important in places with cheap electricity prices?

It's a bit of a journey, but she does.

So if money weren't an issue, where would you most want to travel?

[–] geosoco@kbin.social 1 points 2 years ago (10 children)

That really sucks that it's so expensive.

It's a scifi story about a girl who gets hired to track down who has been posting video clips online. The book's like 20 years old now, but was his first one set in the present instead of being in the not-so-distant future. It's a fun read.

still worse price/perofrmance, but again the bigger point isn't about this specific card. it's for those people on the fence of possibly diving into the 6k line.

[–] geosoco@kbin.social 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Well the 7600 generally performs only a bit better (game dependent), but price/performance wise the 6650/6600 are much better deals in the 200-300$ price range -- at least while they're still around.

Why this matters is it's probably the start of the inevitable retiring the Navi 2X cards, so anyone interested in upgrading should still jump on the discounted 6k cards.

Oh wow, that's expensive. Is it always that expensive or just because of the time of year?

The most recent fiction book I read was pattern recognition which was fun.

Nice! I've never been there either but had a friend who lived there for a few years. Well, maybe you'll get to visit soon and use your Portuguese.

[–] geosoco@kbin.social 1 points 2 years ago

The article has a lot of speculation about the upcoming release so I flagged it as rumor, but I wouldn't be surprised if most/all of speculated details are fairly accurate.

That's awesome! Are you learning for some travel or just to learn?
