American Truck Simulator has, by my count, now added eleven extra states as DLC over and above the two it launched with. That means there's a long way to go before it completely unites the states as one country under 18-wheels, but SCS Software are continuing their efforts with the announcement of a third in-development expansion: Arkansas.

Riot Forge have been quietly building up quite the catalogue of League Of Legends side story games over the last couple of years. In November 2021, they launched the double whammy of rhythm runner Hextech Mayhem and turn-based RPG Ruined King, and this year alone we've already had action RPG The Mageseeker and narrative platformer Conv/rgence. As you can probably tell, they're all focused on different genres, different League heroes, and have all come from different developers - and soon they'll be joined by Song Of Nunu, the next game from Rime developers Tequila Works.

I got to play a very small slice of it at Gamescom last month, and yep, if you've been craving another low stakes adventure that's all but guaranteed to wrench at your heartstrings and wibble your tear ducts, Song Of Nunu will almost certainly fill that Rime-shaped hole in your life when it comes to PC on November 1st.

I've only played an hour or so of Frictional's horror sequel Amnesia: The Bunker, partly because 2023 is stacked with huge games, but also because I find it incredibly intense. Its ingenious combination of, player-driven objectives, self-induced time pressure and a big, nasty something that stalks you dynamically through its First World War bunker setting, makes for a dreadful experience in the truest sense of the word. It's so unrelenting that I struggle to muster the courage to leave the game's central safe room.

Fortunately, Frictional's planned Hallowe'en update to the game has a solution. Of sorts. As reported by RPS, The Bunker is soon to receive a new difficulty mode called Shellshocked, introducing an array of changes designed to make the experience even more horrible. Foremost among these is how it removes the obstacles that make your safe room safe, which on the plus side means you no longer have to worry about leaving it.

Surprise! Like a dual-wielding rogue pouncing from the shadows, Digital Eclipse has simultaneously revealed and launched a remake of the original Wizardry.

To afford the game its full title, Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord was one of the first computer RPGs, and the first to feature party-based play. Released in 1981,Wizardry spawned a series ran for twenty years, with the final entry thus far, Wizardry 8, releasing back in 2001.

In a press release, Digital Eclipse explains the remake has been in development for two years, and is "built directly on top of the original Apple II game's code." While structurally faithful, the remake is nonetheless a full overhaul, with completely modernised visual presentation, a redesigned interface, a new method of party management, and changes to navigation, spellcasting, and combat.

Mirage brings players to 9th Century Baghdad during the city's Golden Age. Here's how Ubisoft recreated it.

Sala says the team looked at writings of people documenting the Mongol invasion, writing about their travel to Baghdad in years past, and understanding their descriptions of this city. He says the team doesn't have physical material of this Golden Age Baghdad, but a lot of literature on it (and much of that literature was scattered around the office on various bookshelves and desks). With him leading the visual charge of Mirag's Baghdad, he also pulled a lot on his time living in the region.

Bungie has announced in its latest Destiny 2 this Week at Bungie blog a major change to the game's economy. Legendary Shards, one of the game's many, many currencies is going away.

Bungie will be removing the currency entirely from the game with the launch of the next expansion, The Final Shape. However, changes will start taking place at the launch of Season 23, which is kicking off at the end of November.

Want to make the combat in The Witcher 3 Next-Gen harder? This The Witcher 3 Next-Gen Combat Redux mod does just that.

Created by 'modder' suaohoward', the Combat Redux mod for the next-gen version of The Witcher 3 on PC introduces Souls-like combat difficulty. In order to make the game's combat more challenging, the modder has made 'Igni' and 'Quen' less effective. This applies to parry and countering as well. Also, attacking and dodging consume stamina when using this mod. Also, being hit reduces stamina. The enemy dodge indicator has been removed as well, and stamina regenerates slower when injured. Luckily, this also applies to opponents. It's an interesting modification for the next-gen version of The Witcher 3, and one that fans of the game will likely appreciate. As such, be sure to check it out if you're into Souls-like combat difficulty.

Before using this mod, it should be noted that other mods likely aren't compatible with this mod. As such, we suggest deactivating all other mods when trying out this new combat mod. The Witcher 3 Next-Gen Combat Redux Mod can be downloaded from Nexusmods here.

The Silent Hill 2 remake may be shown again very soon, judging from some recent findings discovered by fans on Steam.

As spotted by Reddit user Werewald, the game's Steam page features a Tokyo Game Show 2023, which leads to another page featuring deals meant to celebrate the event, which will be held next week, from September 21st to September 24th. Interestingly enough, no other Konami game, with the exception of Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel shows the same banner on its Steam page, suggesting that the highly anticipated remake could be shown during the event.

To prevent the iPhone 12 from being banned in France, Apple is reportedly working to release a software update that is said to bring down the radiation levels to accommodate the request of French regulators. Before being officially released back in 2020, it was reported that Apple knew about this problem and instructed its employees to stay quiet about the whole thing. It does not appear that there will be any legal repercussions against the California-based giant this time.

Thanks to the latest report from Phoronix, we know that Intel is working on supporting the latest "Xe2" graphics architecture for their upcoming Lunar Lake processors. Today, the latest enablement comes in the Mesa Linux drivers. By employing a new technique that allows for importing prior-generation XML files within the Intel Mesa driver code, Intel engineers have managed to streamline the overall file size. This is significant not just for the efficiency it brings but also because it signifies the beginning of work on enabling Xe2 graphics support. It suggests a thoughtful approach to building upon existing architectures, making it easier to adapt and evolve the software support for each new generation of Intel graphics.

Details matter here. Here's a few from the study:

ChatGPT achieved an overall accuracy of 71.7% (95% CI 69.3%-74.1%) across all 36 clinical vignettes. The LLM demonstrated the highest performance in making a final diagnosis with an accuracy of 76.9% (95% CI 67.8%-86.1%) and the lowest performance in generating an initial differential diagnosis with an accuracy of 60.3% (95% CI 54.2%-66.6%). Compared to answering questions about general medical knowledge, ChatGPT demonstrated inferior performance on differential diagnosis (β=–15.8%; P<.001) and clinical management (β=–7.4%; P=.02) question types.

At the time of the study, 36 vignette modules were available on the web, and 34 of the 36 were available on the web as of ChatGPT’s September 2021 training data cutoff date. All 36 modules passed the eligibility criteria of having a primarily textual basis and were included in the ChatGPT model assessment.

All questions requesting the clinician to analyze images were excluded from our study, as ChatGPT is a text-based AI without the ability to interpret visual information.

When I see the monero.town domain, I know it's gonna be garbage.

Are you in the US?
What G5 model is it specifically you're looking at ? This one, the KD i5 one??

Doing a quick search, the price doesn't sound terrible for that particular one, but maybe someone with more recent gaming laptop experience can chime in.

If using Amazon, make sure it's shipped AND sold by amazon. They'll usually cover other things but it can be a hassle. Their return policy for computers isn't great and only covers DOA within 30 days, and if it's a subtle problem like overheating or something they may test it and if they don't see the problem charge you a 15% restocking fee. After that, everything is warranty from gigabyte. So just be aware.

I thought this was might just grieving parents blaming something coincidental, until reading this article. I didn't know that there are other cases of the spiciness of these new peppers seem to be causing problems for some people. Still no clear evidence, but it's possible there's something.

"These ultraspicy peppers may either contain a unique vasoactive substance, or there is a dose-related effect of capsaicin concentration that can trigger RCVS," the doctors concluded. "Further research in this area is needed to determine the exact pathophysiology of this phenomenon. This case provides further evidence that ingestion of hot peppers may lead to serious consequences and that further research is needed to assess their safety."

Emphasis mine.

Yeah i'm excited to play Sea of Stars. Everyone seems to love it!

[–] geosoco@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Absolutely. It's not bad by any stretch of the imagination, but it also feels like their series haven't evolved enough in 20 years to hold my attention. It's the scale of things that I love about their games. Exploring random caves and tombs in oblivion and skyrim and finding factions battling it out, or a new trap i hadn't run into was hundreds of hours of entertainment (probably 1500 total?). I'm sure this will have all of that.

Even compared to skyrim and oblivion though, each dungeon, cave, tomb felt unique. But this seems to be a lot of copy-paste to service the procedural generation.

I think what gets me is aside from a few neat things like space combat and building spaceships, it just feels very paint-by-numbers at this point. It's pretty (in parts), but feels kind of hollow. Maybe after 20 years of playing Bethesda games, I'm just over that style and there hasn't been enough evolution on the core gameplay.

This is the most wtf headline i've read today.

It wasn't any of the people who put in work to propose this or push it forward. Their job is literally to represent people in their district or to do things that will benefit them. They didn't give up a fucking kidney.

[–] geosoco@kbin.social 25 points 2 years ago

This is such a shit show.

The ruling, written by three judges appointed by Republican presidents, comes after the 5th Circuit temporarily blocked an order that had put wide ranging restrictions on the Biden administration’s communications with social media firms. That order had included a wider range of government agencies, including the departments of Health and Human Services, State and Homeland Security as well as the U.S. Census Bureau. The 5th Circuit removed them.

Our democracy was not built to handle the 21st century technologies. lol

There's still a lot, but they're generally niche or are more business related (eg. answers.microsoft.com). Hosting fees and technical knowledge have lead to many people just using reddit or facebook groups.

For gaming there's places like ResetEra and I think SomethingAwful still has their forums going.

There's a ton of support group like ones, often related to certain medical conditions.

Imagine if Texas didn't hate it's residents enough that they allowed their state electricity grid finally connect to other states utility grids so this wasn't a problem and it reduced prices for the people in Texas (and even prevented deaths from recent strains during extreme weather)!
