Also you kinda need to have those domestic companies producing Widgets. If not you are just making Widgets more expensive with no payoff.
We all are Nicole on this blessed day.
I do have a Kärcher Vaccum for home use. It's the VC3.
It's not particularly fancy but you can buy spare parts if you need them and it works well.
I'm so old that i remember when your Phone could accept AAA Batteries in lieu of the rechargeable battery pack if you were in a bind (Alcatel one touch easy).

I love my FP5. And the removeable Battery is a nice party trick to pull in room full of techies :D
Old big EMCO lathes had phenolic gears in their gearbox.
I know because I got to rebuild one and that was one surprise I came actross and that day I learned about phenolic gears.
Probably also useful as a safety shear point. Better to grind a phenolic gear to dust that to break something expensive.
Also I will never forget the smell of the gear oil.

There were alternatives for text (ICQ, AIM) which were nice and everyone had them, and voice (Teamspeak, Mumble) which were either not free or you had to host them yourself and neither did Videocalls. So you begrugingly had a skype account too.
