Shower thoughts in the shower? Hmm...

Already setup! I think the first thing I want to do is setup retrieval augmented generation. Several of my hobby ideas will require it I think. Started trying to read up on it a couple days ago and I had a serious lack of focus going on.

I've been kind of hoping to come across a super simple way to implement it, but haven't exactly looked much yet.

Cool! I'll subscribe. I've got about a dozen projects I'd like to build with Ollama, if I'll get the motivation and free time who knows?

The algorithm(s) and "For You" pages I think have done more damage to my ideal internet than anything else ever has.

I have a feeling that someday in the future we'll also see that the algorithm was also responsible for damage to the human mind and society as well.

There are absolutely other people out there like you, I'm a lot like what you've described, slightly different details, but overall it sounds very familiar to me. For a while I felt disconnected from society in almost dissociative kind of way, but in recent years I think I've come to realize it's not really me who is dissociated from reality. You mention people using corporate social media and propaganda, I think those two things have created such terrible disparity between those who use it and those who don't (and amongst the ones who use one network, but not the other one, etc...) and the people who strive for facts and empathy become alienated from what appears to be "normal" social behavior.

So yes, there are (hopefully many) people out there with whom you should not have to compromise your core principles to be friends with, but I think these types of individuals are the quietest, the most thoughtful, and introspective. The one compromise we the quiet ones should be making these days is to be vocal.

I hope you can find some likeminded folks to be social with!

This is one of those movies that I've been meaning to watch for, apparently 32, years. In this case it works out that I haven't yet because now I can (maybe) finally watch it in high quality!

Clutch is one of those bands that I can always rely on, always true to the rock & roll. I've seen them around two dozen times over the course of almost 3 decades and they never disappoint. And Neil Fallon is my absolute favorite lyricist. The way he weaves words is like candy for my lexophile brain, especially from the album Robot Hive/Exodus.

I was diagnosed with with ADD in 1992 at 12 years old, and again by a different doctor at 16, but it was the 90s and "we all had ADD!", at least that's what I told myself for the following two and a half decades. I basically gaslit myself into completely dismissing the diagnosis from two separate doctors several years apart. Of course, I also struggled with basically every aspect of what I would have considered "normal life" all the while. I mean, barely able to exist in the Normal World ™ and always wondering why the hell I couldn't just "get my shit together".

Well, spoiler, it was the ADHD. The incredible thing is, I know about a dozen other people my age who all have the same story as mine. We made a joke of it all and ended up really screwing ourselves over as the punchline.

“What I can tell, however, is that hating on the tech itself distracts people from blaming those actually responsible, the humans doing the enshittification. The billionaires, dictators...”

^– SattaRIP^

That's something I've been trying to convince people of that I converse with about LLMs and similar generative technology. I've met so many people that just throw a big blanket of hate right over the entire concept of the technology and I just find it so bizarre. Criticize the people and corporations using the tech irresponsibly! It's like a mass redirection of what and who is really to blame. Which I think is partially because "AI" is something that sort of anthropomorphizes itself to a large portion of society and most people think the "personality within" the technology is responsible for the perceived misdeeds.

I figure when all is said and done and historians and researchers look back on this time, there will be a lot to learn about human behavior that we likely have little grasp of at the moment.

My neurologist has been throwing every test at me and so far all they've come up with is vestibular migraine, which I've had complicated migraine my whole life and never had the symptoms I do now (that started out of nowhere about a year ago). Which include ataxia, nystagmus, tremors, and a whole host of other neurological symptoms...

So not diagnosed with MSA, but empathic to your situation. I would have never guessed how much more debilitating neurological conditions could get after having spent 40 years with migraines that would sometimes keep me in bed and in agony for days at a time every month of every year.

The muscle weakness, loss of coordination, tremors, and general bodily dysfunction disables me more than those horrible headaches did and I previously couldn't have imagined that would be true. And all this just as I finally got my head pain stuff under control! It's enough to make me wonder if the solution to that may have caused the new problems, but that's another thing.

Anyway, I can't speak to your specific condition, but I know neurological dysfunction all too well and if you ever need to talk about it, my ears (and eyes) still work (sort of), for now... (gallows humor, can't help it).

Thanks for the tip! I haven't heard of that and I've been looking for something to keep track of this stuff as well.

Hey there! How much work would it be to add the ability to select a font to use for Arctic that’s installed on the device? For instance, I use the Atkinson Hyperlegible Next font for everything that I possibly can (it works wonders for my dyslexia).

Is there an app URL scheme that can be used with Arctic? Like if I wanted to open a Lemmy post using the address I could do arctic://openURL/lemmypost.com/postUrlID

I recently started using the newly released Tapestry by The Iconfactory and it allows you to follow rss feeds and all kinds of other things (so Lemmy communities as well). It also lets you define your own custom apps to open for the various feeds and would love to have it open Arctic to the post when I tap the item in Tapestry.

Thanks a bunch for building this fantastic app!

By the way, here is Tapestry’s documentation on how to use the URL schemes, in case you wanna take a look.

Hello folks, I haven’t seen anything new in this community in quite a while, but perhaps someone might see this…

I’ve been taking Nurtec for migraine for the past 4 months now and I’m very curious about other’s experiences with this medication. I’ve had fairly decent results with it (actually, it works better than anything I’ve tried in the past), but I also think I experience some pretty unfortunate side effects as well and I’d like to see if anyone else has noticed anything negative?

Thanks!
