if ping fails with the name but works with 8.8.8.8 then you're losing DNS. set the nameservers locally on the server if you're using a static IP.

[–] fuser@quex.cc 1 points 2 years ago (5 children)

check that nameservers are specified in /etc/resolv.conf

fair point - tbh I was amused by seeing error messages in the reddit UI under a post about "The CEO of Reddit" - and it goes without saying that I've no idea about the veracity of anything posted on reddit.

yes, that's definitely very mildly infuriating - but wait, your const is a function???

Reddit's CEO just infuriated his striking moderators by saying 'this one will pass,' the way 'all blowups' do. They want to keep the site dark indefinitely.

The Reddit blackout was supposed to be a two-day event. But comments made by CEO Steve Huffman in an internal memo that leaked have strengthened the resolve of protesting moderators, who are vowing to keep the popular channels offline indefinitely.

Huffman, in a memo to Reddit staff Monday, reportedly downplayed the blackout. The Verge, which posted the email, quotes Huffman as saying the company has “not seen any significant revenue impact so far” and “like all blowups on Reddit, this one will pass as well”.

As of 11:00 a.m. ET Wednesday, more than 6,000 subreddits were still dark, with a large number set to restricted access, meaning Reddit users could see old posts, but are unable to make new ones.

Among the subreddits that remain dark are r/funny (with over 40 million subscribers), r/Music and r/science (with over 30 million subscribers each) and r/DIY, which has more than 20 million subscribers.

good call. the time spent getting postfix, dovecot and spamassassin set up so they actually work is nontrivial, and then once you congratulate yourself that it's all working perfectly, none of your email will be delivered, so you can then start learning about how overzealous blacklisting works.

AWS has Simple Email Service (SES) which works, although it's annoying to have to resort to a corporate service for outgoing mail just to make sure it's delivered. Reliable delivery to every recipient when sending directly from a small mail server seems practically impossible nowadays.

Her husband has a net worth of USD 10M. Why do rich people never seem to know when it's time to shut up?

[–] fuser@quex.cc 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I think so. letsencrypt will only be looking for the file that certbot creates, so as long as it can resolve the fqdn to your host and port 80 (http://yourdoma.in) is navigable, then you should be good.

[–] fuser@quex.cc 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (3 children)

yes, the domain in the hosts file needs to be the fqdn. Let's encrypt will look for the auth file at the root of that. if you are already using this fqdn/webroot you'll need another cname.

Between 2006 and 2012, opioid drug makers and distributors flooded the country with 76 billion pills of oxycodone and hydrocodone—highly addictive opioid pain medications that sparked the epidemic of abuse and overdoses that killed nearly 100,000 people in that time period.

In all, the deluge of pills was enough to supply every adult and child in the country with around 36 opioid pills per year.

The Post also noted that the distribution was concentrated in certain places, finding that West Virginia, Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Nevada had the top pill-per-person-per-year rates of all states, ranging from 66.5 to 54.7. West Virginia, which had the highest distribution rate, also had the highest opioid death rate during this period.

But certain rural areas were also hard hit, with Norton, Virginia, receiving 306 pills per person per year and Mingo County, West Virginia, receiving 203.
