This is the sort of competition we need, and it goes to show how incredibly cheap cycling infrastructure is compared to car infrastructure.

That sign came out of nowhere! And it wasn't wearing a helmet!

If bears kept killing people in our cities, would we do something about the bears, or would we blame people for being mauled?

We need to design our streets to be safer, which involves incorporating traffic calming measures so that drivers will choose to drive at speeds that are safe for everybody.

Moving the goalposts: first you claim the feds are powerless, and when proven wrong you demand that the poster does all the work instead of admitting that you were wrong. You can do better than that.

They want freedom to do what they want, not freedom for you to do what you want. To be fair, we are all a bit like that.

Premier is a closeted homosexual confirmed.

Do you realize how homophobic these sorts of messages are? Accusing every homophobe of being secretly homosexual is in itself homophobic for two reasons.

First, because if it was true then would logically follow that the suffering of homosexuals would be entirely self-inflicted. We know this is false, because in certain cultures homophobia is nearly universal.

Second, because it implies that the "problem" with homophobes is that they are homosexual, when in reality the problem is that they are... well... homophobic.

I'm not denying that some homosexuals suffer from internalized homophobia. But to jump from that to the blanket assumption that every homophobe is homosexual is plainly wrong, both factually and morally.

The very article you linked shows how the real-world tire wear of electric vehicles is substantially higher than the same models using IC engines. Whether it is due to higher acceleration or higher weight is not explained.

I am not opposed to electric cars. I am opposed to all cars and to the idea that electric cars are somehow a panacea, ignoring their externalities like traffic noise, air pollution and danger to other road users.

Unless we fully move off CO2 based transportation

My understanding is that electric cars produce similar amounts of particulate pollution compared to other cars, because while they lack an internal combustion engine, they are also heavier and that increased the amount of particulates produced through tire wear and braking.

In other words, cars as a whole are the problem. Walking, cycling, streetcars and subways are the solution.

Thank you for the NSFW tag. I threw up in my mouth a little.

Of course there is proof of the existence of God. Simply marvel at His creation! The Flying Spaghetti Monster built this whole universe 5,000 years ago. Ramen.

Cycling infrastructure in Sweden? That is not possible! Let's be realistic: bicycles don't work six months of the year when it is cold outside. Bicycle tracks can't be plowed, winter tires don't exist and people can't wear warm clothing while riding a bike. Nobody ever leaves the house in winter unless they are safely surrounded by a big metal box with an air conditioner attached to it.

...or at least those are the reasons I've heard that explain why we can't have better cycling infrastructure in Canada.

Most cars, at least in NA, have excessively large engines. It is crazy that we use 2L engines to carry one person around, when their own legs would suffice.
