Depends on the site, for Lemmy it seems just a lil bit slower

Thin chips = french fries

Thick chips = chips

What Americans call chips = crisps

i don't unfortunately. i think his first name was Daniel or Damien. it's been such a long time, I'm not sure

British slang for approval

I have one, glitches constantly where I have to keep unplugging and re inserting flash drives/other USBs

tastes like MEMORY_MANAGEMENT

wait, what was the post about?

Longlegs was deffo one of those films where you get a better understanding of it the more times you watch

When I was 17 in school (sixth form) there were some girls who kept chatting shit about me behind my back. there was this tall, very loud guy who went by "D" who'd always seem to be shouting things at random people in the hallways so I tried to avoid crossing paths with him. one day D caught these girls chatting shit about me and he came up to me and told me about them. we became friends and he'd always step in to defend me. after we became friends nobody dared to chat shit about me. everytime we crossed paths in the hallway he'd yell "YOOOOO" followed by "saaafe maan" and either do a thumbs up or a slow fist bump. he ended up asking me out one day but i said idk if I'm ready for a relationship and he was understanding about it. this was in like 2010 so it was a looong time ago. i hope wherever he is he's doing well

I did it by just clicking the three horizontal lines at the top right corner > settings > search "bridges" > request bridges

Done! πŸ‘

me too, so simple but a godsend

idk i'm not too well versed with this type of stuff but I've tried accessing sites that've geoblocked the uk and have access! you just have to be sure the ip isn't from the UK, if it is, clicking "new identity" sorts it out usually

TIL duck wardens are a thing. very cute!! ❀️

Context: UK passed this online safety act thing a few days ago (source) where you have to verify your age on sites that might contain nsfw content and the checks involve stuff like uploading a photo of your face, ID or even your passport. if anything it's just making people more unsafe (look what happened with the Tea app which required similar verification (source)). ain't gonna dox myself to the government/companies and it's easily circumvented using TOR lol. fuck da system🀘

had a dental appointment earlier because I'm getting sensitivity after eating chocolate and it turns out I have a tiiiny early cavity the dentist's gonna fill next month. i had to have 2 x rays one on one side and one on the other. well the x rays picked up more than just a tiny little cavity, there's a wisdom tooth that's literally at a 90 degree sidewards angle to my bottom molar, it's not causing any pain but holy shit i didn't expect to see that on the x rays and i hate having any kind of dental work done. i just hope i don't have to have general anaesthesia for this one bc general anaesthesia freaks me out so bad

  • !InsanePeopleQuora@lemmings.world - operates the same as the subreddit of the same name. Saw a post or answer on Quora that was just plain weird or nuts? Post 'em here!

  • !ChavLovers@lemmings.world - Chavs are a subculture/fashion and music sense in Britain (like goth, punk etc) that's existed since the late 1990s which still gets unfairly demonised

  • !Sealioning@lemmings.world - a community for posting examples of "sealioning", which is a trolling tactic that is utilised to exhaust the opponent. a lot of people don't know what it is, so recognition is a sealion's worst enemy!

3 years ago I was in a pretty bad depression. COVID contributed to it but also some other things including family woes and a (then undiagnosed) health problem that caused me constant, chronic pain (I'm okay now!). it was a sunny spring day so I'd walk to this chip shop I liked back then (since closed down), and next to the chip shop was a OneStop that had this bike shelter kind of space. I'd sit in the corner eating my chips because I wanted to eat them while they were fresh. ig I looked depressed because right as I was finishing, two men approached me. the older one asked "yo, you alright?" and then the younger one he was with said "you homeless or something? because we've seen you sitting here several times. you ok?"

at first i wasn't sure if they were confronting me in a bad way. i was wearing my old hoodie and trainers because I just wasn't in the mood to make myself look good. they gestured me to come stand up and go round the corner. not going to lie, I'm a petite, skinny woman, so I thought "is this really a good idea to follow them?" but i did. when i got there they just started talking to me. I said I'm not homeless. they said I looked "down" and the younger one said "you can talk with us about it if you'd like, we ain't gonna judge ya" and the older one said he was a rapper who is a sponsor for mental health awareness and he talked about how he went through some bad times with his mental health as well.

i bit the bullet. I opened up to them, I talked with them for half an hour, couldn't stay longer because my mom would've gotten worried. i opened up to them because at the time it seemed like nobody was taking my medical issue and the stress it was causing me seriously. but they did and they told me to keep strong. at the end of the convo one of them said "we hang out here every other day so you can come speak to us again if you like". i'd walk up that chippy every other day to every week and i never actually saw either of them again after that tho.

sorry for the long post but that gesture went a long way. i actually felt better, i felt listened to and validated at a time where people weren't listening to me. i wasn't feeling suicidal or anything i just was in the type of depression where i'd only want to eat and sleep all the time and let the world continue on without me. my mom asked me why i took so long and i explained there were some good samaritans who were having a chat with me. ofc my mom freaked tf out about it lol

idk if there's a word for this, but i recently argued with someone who was ranting about "boat people", referring to migrants coming to the UK. i was like "ohhh you mean sailors? I like their hats. mad respect to them, must be a tough job ay?" and then in front of everyone the bigot clarified they meant people who aren't white entering the uk which then caused other people to confront him since they knew what he meant. basically i like getting them to show themselves up in front of everyone. like asking people who are against "DEI" what it stands for. always funny when a bigot is being vague on purpose and then they can't resist saying what they really mean lol
