If a train were to go along that whole motorway it would take up a fraction of the space, carry most if not all those people, and move them faster than this.
I was in Switzerland and the trains there are incredible. Even the tiniest village in buttfucksburg, nowhere has a train connecting it to the rest of the country.

Iirc they imported Corn from the US since it was cheap. But corn is a odd crop, it's difficult to digest especially for the Irish who weren't accustomed to the crop. So it provided minimal nutrition for the Irish.
