Capitalism killed cities, not COVID.

Thanks, I hate it.

It's absolutely a nice exercise for yourself, and I'm sure you learned a lot of good skills along the way. Just because a project doesn't become a big thing doesn't mean it wasn't a useful stepping stone for your skillset.

The thing is, I suspect with such skills, you're capable of creating something unique, interesting, and more vibrant than a copy of what reddit did. I do hope you do.

This is the thing that blows my mind the most. If you just went in on this turd and called him out and called him names and called him stupid, he would absolutely lose his shit and lose control of his faculties. He absolutely is a fucking baby and cannot handle being bullied himself.

I know it seems backwards, but bullying bullies tends to work. They are bullies because they are pussies who get away with abusing others. The second they face consequences, the crocodile tears roll out. My opinion is let 'em fucking cry about it, this is how they wanted to play the game.

There's already lots of digital canvases all over the internet. Many of them aren't connected to anything like reddit and exist independently.

I'm going to say the same thing I said the last time this was brought up and failed miserably as an event.

We should be creating our own culture, not trying to recreate the absolute dogshit culture of reddit by ripping off their half-assed ideas that were only used to generate engagement.

We don't need engagement other than for talking with each other. Reddit needed engagement because they've been chasing an IPO for a decade and use things like /r/place to try to keep the site seeming like its active and that they can sell data to make money.

Reddit never created Place for the users of Reddit. They created it to game metrics and make the site seem more active.

So, why are we copying things that were created to increase engagement but not increase the quality of the site?

My vote is just don't copy them. Make our own culture. Make your own, interesting, creative idea and share it with the community. Don't rip off shitty attempts at generating "user engagement" and pushing up that mDAU (monetizable daily active users). Lemmy doesn't need increase mDAU because they're not trying to monetize anyone.

They must call it "pot" because it gives you a "pot belly."

this indicates he realizes how deep the shit he’s in is

If this motherfucker actually faces any real consequences, I swear I'll eat my fucking hat. They've done literally everything they can to slow walk his prosecution.

They literally weren't going to prosecute him in the documents case until it became abundantly clear that he had no intention of ever giving the documents back. The normal route for this kind of thing is the politician says "Oops I'm sowwy" and nothing happens to them after they've given back documents in question.

They literally only pursued him for this after they gave him months of chances to walk away without ever facing a courtroom. They gave him countless opportunities to return the documents and have the entire thing just hushed up and ignored.

I have very little faith in what is left of our legal system being able to reign this motherfucker in.

I'm shocked, this many years later, when regular citizens are murdered by cops for far less, that anyone could see it as any different. He's out here walking free and intimidating literally anyone and everyone involved in these cases. There are no real consequences for him, and I'm sick to death of all the excuses for why. It's the same kind of bullshit excuses they gave us when Mueller was investigating.

The simple, obvious answer is: It's a big club, and we ain't in it.

Going on FOX to do the debate isn't going to help anything.

Tildes has been around way longer than Lemmy and somehow still sucks more. I know Deimos was the creator of Automoderator, and has penned whole screeds on how to grow and manage communities, but all he has done is create a boring echo chamber.

I have no doubt some people would help but I don’t want to put anyone in that situation, myself included.

The most stressful part of life is that the most compassionate people understand that everyone is in nearly the same bad situation they are in, and it makes it hard to want to ask for help from people struggling as much as you are.

However, it doesn't have to be that way, and we don't have to punish ourselves from needing help from our peers. I don't have much to give, but I know, in aggregate, every little bit helps. We're all struggling out here, and we may not be able to give everything to one another, but we can give compassion, and whatever help we can muster. And that means something.

It's hard to not have the inclusivity and outright hope from Star Trek influence how I feel in Star Trek forums. The hope for a better future where we work together collectively for a better future for all matters, in my opinion.

I genuinely hope for the best for you, and all my fellow Trek nerds.

Yes, anytime you're extending a WiFi signal, you're essentially cutting your speeds in half because WiFi can only run half-duplex as opposed to full-duplex like wired ethernet.

Duplex means you can send signal in both directions. Full duplex means you can send signal in both directions at the same time. Half duplex means you can only send in one direction at a time. Simplex means it can only go one direction and you need two cables to do both directions (a lot of fiber-optic connections are simplex with two cables, one for each direction of signal. Light can't really go two directions at once.).

If you add more repeaters, it literally keeps "repeating" the data sent back and forth, slowing down the WiFi because it has to repeat the same data more and more and more, as you add more repeaters.

Source: Took a WiFi class when I was getting my network admin degree. You're never supposed to have more than one WiFi repeater for this reason. Mesh networks are different.

Bots. Many pro-reddit pro-official-app comments were proven to be bots during the height of the protests.

Reddit literally has a long, long history of using bots to make the site seem like it has more engagement, even from the early days of the site.
