Kden lives technically kde app, gimp is based off gtk, and so on, but yeah you basically pick a starter for yourself based on what you priortize, I like gaming so cachyos helps me grab packages id otherwise not know about, makes it easy to tweak scheduler, kernel, etc. setup btrfs snapper support and pick different bootloaders grubs, refined, limine, etc.

There are other distros meant to be closer to windows by default, with their theming, de, app picks, etc. just look around distrowatch

They all come with different preinstalled apps, which are a mix of os and de dependent, like mint with cinnamon may use nemo for files, cachyos with gnome may use nautilus, but I like nemo so on cachyos with gnome I have nemo installed and set as the default.

Deepin and elementary have unique des I think, and pop os with cosmic in alpha

You cant really go wrong, de is more what decides the desktop experience, like theming/look ,etc. Kde plasma, gnome, cinnamon, xfce , etc. or tiling managers like hyprland (id stick to des for now coming from windows)

Ive mostly tried plasma and gnome Kde plasma is windows on steroids, customizable and snappy, tons of settings, most customization built in and not reliant on extensions

Gnome is like chromeos/macos futuristic opinionated, I like it a lot with extensions, slightly better than kde plasma with a lot of extensions imo

Cinnamons like closer to a simple windows experience

xfces lightweight but I think plasmas caught up there?

Ubuntu is an alright first pic, id prob reccomend something fedora based instead since I prefer flathub/flatpak to the snap store, bazzite if you game, imo the best default app store bazaar (can dload anywhere I have it on cachyos but it may be hard to figure out at first)

I'm a man, but lemmy should add a way to block every single user in a community so we can avoid seeing each others posts alltogether, im doing it manually off the posts but its a hassle

when you like how things are you dont really actively fight to keep it, other ppl actively fight to get rid of it when they dislike it, silent majority loses

there are more of us than there are puritans, they just have been blwoing up their phones/emails for years

For those who don't know, basic premise is robocop type from 2077 gets sent back in time with a bunch of prisoners during a failed execution (a lot more revealed about that as time goes on) and is stuck in 2012 trying to catch them and get back, the plot changes/evolves a lot as the show goes on. Another main point is a young tech genius who later becomes overlord bezos is helping her. (minor spoiler) I feel like I could write paragraphs about the plot with fullon spoilers that would only really spoil 1% of what goes on in this show.

I always liked time travel concepts and watched every show/movie and read a lot of books/manga/comics related to it, but somehow never heard of continuum. This show was solid, nothing too crazy, but it was consistent with the twists and the plot stayed fresh keeping the show entertaining, I was able to binge it pretty fast without the usual headache that comes from a long show where it just starts to blend together.

They do thematic changes a lot that definitely helps. Season 1 was like buddy cop, man in the chair, almost superhero like. The later seasons switch more to being about branching realities, different timelines, how small changes effect people, and I like how they approach time travel in multiple forms. I wish it kept the cheesiness tho, felt like it got way more serious in tone by the end.

The show also kinda hits extra right now since the politics and the world people are trying to change are basically the direction we are going rnow with corporations, corrupt government, etc.

Rewatching, just finished season 2, forgot how much I loved this show. It was my intro to star trek, outside of parodies I hadn't seen anything, not even the movies, this show got me into it.

Party that screams about releasing redacted informarion sure loves controlling the narative by redacting information.

Each instance could have their own city with different shops, npcs, jobs, etc. available. Kind of love the concept of the game and think it would mix well with social media.

Remember how everyone agreed it was probably her, we had hella high upvote posts, see none of them now only found one filled with skeptics
