Saw a person smile, caught a scent of someone else, was able to breath normally, felt my heartbeat soften, noticed on my skin some small scars from my childhood, remembered a joke somebody dear to me used to tell, saw a young pup react to her first ever experiences, found somebody having a hard time transitioning from Windows to Linux... Thankful to be alive at the same points in time and space as some truly wonderful beings.
Also the false notion that if a third party benefits it will always result in a loss for their first party. Better education for everyone can only result in a better world for everyone. And if the issue with foreigners is some of them earned their place unfairly then the problem isn't nationality but the massive wealth gap billionaires keep on feeding. People should whine less and eat more rich, the healthiest diet out there. 10/10 doctors forced to leave the US would approve.
Frankly, reading more of others' experiences with them, this reminds me of the disinformation campaigns the far right political parties have been paying for in Europe. It's not that these people even defend a particular ideology when interacting with others. They don't mind contradicting themselves as long as every new shitshow creates easily spreadable lies, manipulates people's emotions and undermines their enemies' trust in each other.

I had been seeing and muting tons of hate speech (even explicit calls for torture and murder) posted by Hexbear users but didn't want to take the easy path of blocking a whole community or instance. I don't wish to believe everyone registered there is like that. Today I got banned and labeled reactionary for calling out in a single comment that one of their user's "background check" on a French gamedev was equivalent to those done at US airports. I had it coming I guess? 🤔

I'm reading posts as yours thankful to still find some people with common sense. I lost friends to covid while others kept ranting about nonsensical conspiracy theories and proudly rebelling. One of the dumbest shit I've heard people say is "Why should I wear a mask for covid if I don't wear one for flu?". Well, if you actually gave a damn about anyone's wellbeing you'd wear a mask for BOTH.
