Very true and I am glad you’re ok too.

You’re right though as I do the same and just wallow and then you just go lower and lower.

Like I don’t feel like I’m living for a purpose and more I’m occupying time until the end and keeping myself busy. Maybe that’s just life though.

Thank you. I am doing much better but I feel I am always teetering on the edge of being ok and being meh.

Gotta take the wins where you can and try and have fun.

Minecraft and Factorio.

Both mixed in a little IRL depression and I was living vicariously through Steve or making factories.

Luckily I now do 2 days in the office but I have a drive commute of around 90 mins each way and maybe 75 mins in school holidays. For around 9 months without a cat I was taking the tram and train with a walk either end which took around 120-150 mins each way

I could not tolerate that full time but I’ve no doubt many people do.

The fuck!

I worked at McD what of it? If someone’s working and paying bills then don’t judge them.

I’m a software developer now but not only through hard work as I recognise a certain amount of luck played into how I got where I am now and without that I’d still be working minimum wage somewhere.

Same. Same in call centres too. Did some fun stuff like getting colleagues to say a word you have to work into the next call like “spoon” which is easy with a little “good afterspoon”. Or doing dumb shit like pretending we had Tourette’s.

A few nights ago I drove to go and practice hitting some golf balls, I’m terrible, and so decided to stop at a shop on the way there.

Now I’m just in my own world, thoughts flowing constantly and so don’t think much of the shouting as I go into the shop; which has its doors open.

As I go in I can hear someone shouting get out but still I don’t realise he’s talking to me. Then I notice a dude without a shirt on approaching me menacingly, now I’m not a fighter but I instinctively turn into more a fighter stance and receive the hardest thigh kick I’ve ever had as he says leave.

Now you don’t gotta tell me twice I’m done with this shit and straight to golf. As I’m driving the next few minutes to get there I can’t stop thinking about what could be happening to the shop keepers. Not really a fan of the cops but in times like these I thought it necessary to call it in and they say they’ll send someone right out.

I call back the next day to get an update and they take a while to read the notes and say it turned into a serious incident and that an officer would call me. I have a family member in the police so for them to check and turns out it was armed robbery but she didn’t tell me anymore than that.

Just crazy when you’re put into a crazy situation out of nowhere.

I completely agree. As a software developer I preferred when I had a Mac whereas our company uses Windows and Microsoft for everything and it just meh.

Mac was so easy to do everything from the terminal or the search bar.

They’re all the rage, if you can get a mute one then it’s better otherwise they keep banging on about fair wages and sleep breaks 😩

Thanks for the insight.

Yeah I more took issue with OP saying REM sleep, after a quick search it seems sleep might be in blocks of 90 minutes with REM coming at the end of the each block, and less that REM sleep is that long.

[–] dependencyinjection@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Well after a cursory look online it seems OP was talking incorrectly.

Studies show that sleep itself is segmented in 90 minute blocks with REM coming at the end. Rather than the REM section being 90 minutes.

My ~~German~~ Garmin tracks my sleep daily and I’ve never had a REM stage of sleep be 90 minutes.

I’ve been saying it’s an echo chamber for a while now and it makes me spend less time here.

I am a software developer so yes on the coding.

Requirements:

  • Able to pirate books and load them on
  • Nice if it can integrate with my arr stack (Sonarr, Radarr, etc)
  • reasonably priced
  • not locked down to anything

That’s it really just a simple e-reader that I can add what I want.

Edit: this is the first post where I got a lot of comments where I wasn’t too overwhelmed to reply to them all. Hard when you wake up to so many replies but trying to be better thanking people for their input.

I’m asking as I’m trying to understand empathy and whether it’s normal to get so invested in fake characters, I mean it’s probably a testament to the writers but I overthink… a lot.

This question was bright on as I’ve been catching up on The Blacklist and at lunch today watching Season 8 Episode name “Anne “ and it wrecked me.

Tap for spoilerBasically the main character Red has to live a guarded life and for once he let it form and got close to Anne and you could tell shit was going to go downhill and it destroyed me when you think about it from his or her perspective.

For reference I’m 41 year old dude, not that it matters.

Edit: Bedtime for me but back tomorrow to reply to all.

Edit 2: I’ve got 41 comments to respond to. Currently working but I’ll be back y’all.

As the title states I’ve got bad hands and my hobbies include Rock Climbing, Piano, Golf, and Running. Suffice to say I can’t do shit.

This was a tricky operation as where the bend was is also where all the nerves and blood vessels are housed so there is risk of termination (loss of) the finger, loss of sensation, blood supply etc.

It was elective but the pros outweigh the risks for me with my hobbies and how they help me stay not sad.

Before. You can also see the scar from my first operation on the ring finger. As well as lots of flaky skin from climbing.

So I saw an ad for this cool looking led strip thing you can put in your car and then it has lots of settings.

Clicked the link and it took me to Temu, figure sure I’ll give it a go and download the app.

OMFG what the heck is this gamified shopping?

When it loaded I swear to Odin it went like a casino and said you can get the item you clicked on for free and you can choose another 5 items.

So I’m browsing through all this crap I don’t really want and adding things to move on. After selecting all free items it then said you win again or something and gave me more things to pick.

Then at the end it’s like right spend $35 to get all the other stuff for free, but said the original thing I clicked to get was not available. It’s like a bait and switch and I’m thinking I don’t any of this really I just wanted the cool led strip thing and to be left alone.

Honestly I really can’t believe people would use this place at all.

As the title says I’m looking for advice from people that have legal experience.

I bought a used car in November 2023 and from the start it had issues. Come February 2024 I can’t drive it anymore as I’m putting coolant in several times in a journey and after a couple of repairs it’s determined it needs a new head gasket. They refuse to pay for it at the finance company so I go to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

The FOS rules in my favour and orders them to refund and compensate me and remove the car from my drive.

I’ve had my refund but the car is still on my drive 4 weeks later and the finance company says they’re chasing Zuto to remove the vehicle.

Last week I sent a letter stating if not removed but X date then the rate would be £20 a day for storage. They didn’t respond.

I called again and told them I need this sorting as I will move the car to the street where it will likely be towed for no tax or insurance, but I don’t believe I am legally allowed to do this.

My question is what are my options, and will I be able to get the storage fee of £20 a day from them.

Thanks.

Anybody else had this issue.

I have a media server setup with Plex and Jellyfin and now people here prefer Jellyfin but Plex is available on more devices and my users prefer it.

Now I tried watching several movies on iPhone via Plex app and it kept freezing and I had to exit and start again and half the time it wouldn’t remember where I was. I tried to watch the same movies on Jellyfin, again on iPhone and no issue.

Any thoughts? I did watch a movie at my friends on Plex through Firestick with no issue so not sure if it’s iOS or my home network and Plex or something else.

As the title states I am wondering what would be a good machine to build for my piracy. I am open to buying a used machine on eBay and expanding over time.

The last time I was sailing I had a Dell R610 Server Rack but I don’t have the space for this now. So something that can sit behind a tv stand in the corner next to the router.

  • I would be running Plex / Jellyfin
  • Some kind of torrent software
  • Something for NZBs if still viable
  • then the usual SONARR, RADARR, etc

I would like to be able to let friends connect from outside my house to stream media and allow them access so they can add films and the server goes off and finds them, extracts them, and adds them to the media server.

Thanks.
