The Democratic party broke the Democratic party by letting the mask slip and showing that when push comes to shove, the Corporate Democrats find fascism to be just fine with their wealthy benefactors interests.

After years of the party using "this might be the end of democracy" for campaign purposes, their actions show they either don't care or are actively on board with ending it. In a conflict where monied interests are trying to destroy our nation and rebuild it to solely their interests, is it surprising that those who have fattened themselves with that money are rendered ineffective?

You might even call them the controlled opposition, a failsafe to ensure things don't shift too far left. I remember how the DNC put their finger on the scales and gave us Biden, and then instead of giving us a choice played games and threw Kamala at us rather than open a primary. But hey the DNC machine made money from donations from people desperate to keep fascism at bay... and the reality of the threat only made them more money.

From my perspective based on their actions in this defining moment, corporate Democrats are not our friends and will choose to enrich themselves instead of fight for us at every self-interested opportunity.

We desperately need to get money out of politics.

Every time I see Republicans taking a new low on attacking trans people, all that tells me is that's how Republicans deserve to be treated in the future.

When I see Republicans calling for the erasure of trans people, what do you think that tell me Republicans deserve to be treated like?

Thank them with a free guillotine ride right?

Yeah but his job review with daddy Putin says he's doing the bigliest bestest job as a Russian asset. I'm not sure what he would do differently if he was an asset out in the open.

He's isolating us from the world by alienating our allies and cozying up with dictators. Has completely bastardized the justice department into his personal bribe machine. How much has he gotten from court payouts where the plaintiff had a slam dunk case but knows winning would be worse since Trump can then use the government apparatus to attack them? 3 or 4 if my count is close...

The man is a flat out traitor to his nation and is using the gullible and ignorant as his foundation, base, or Al Quaeda if you will... I hope the gullible and ignorant figure their shit out before they get swept further up in something that was never ever going to benefit them and could cause them to lose everything.

Every Republican deserve to be treated the way they treat the most marginalized groups.

I mean clearly he didn't know the guy right? “I’ve known Jeff [Epstein] for 15 years. Terrific guy,” Trump told New York magazine in 2002. “He’s a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side.”

It's not like they talked extensively about their relationship.... https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/nov/01/trump-jeffrey-epstein-tapes

Good thing we don't have multiple testimonies of Trump's proclivity for sexual misconduct... especially involving Epstein... https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/oct/25/trump-sexual-misconduct-allegations-timeline

At least there aren't claims he raped children!!! Oh wait this never got through the courts because the plaintiff was having their life threatened. You'd think Trump would want to clear his name but he didn't seem to think he could. https://www.courthousenews.com/rape-allegations-refiled-against-trump/

But he's never had a reputation as a predator OR a creep! Oh... "From walking into a teen dressing room to joking about his obligation to sleep with contestants, Trump's a storied pageant creep" https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-features/a-timeline-of-donald-trumps-creepiness-while-he-owned-miss-universe-191860/

You're right. If I ignore all of the evidence to the contrary, there's clearly no relationship and Donald obviously can't be a pedophile rapist that was heavily involved in Epsteins schemes. It's why Trump clearly didn't have him killed. Just a "perfect storm of screw ups" with multiple hardware failures and zero witnesses to the death of one of the highest profile criminals at the time under the Trump DOJ watch. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Jeffrey_Epstein

Conservatives are morally bankrupt pieces of shit that are too stupid to understand the concept of soft power and getting your way through good will rather than threats and murder. It's why they see no value in USAID nor the humanitarian benefits it provides. Why save lives when you can prepare for war against allies like Canada?

Oh hey look it's that prepper from the other day. Mr. "I've been preparing for chaos for years I'll be fine if Trump fucks up the country I got mine and I voted for him to do it!" Retiree right? Got to coast when tuition prices let you get an education for just weeks of summer work? I bet you spend a lot of time bitching about kids these days oblivious to how the policies you support have directly fucked them over. You should try to be a better, more empathetic person.

[–] deadtom@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago (3 children)

And look at you supporting Trump. Don't want to let all that prepping go to waste with a functioning country huh?

Not trying to be an asshole but if you expect anything will materially change you shouldn't be surprised when the DNC rug pulls you again.

I really want to include the new DNC chair in that list.

I strongly disagree.

“There are a lot of good billionaires out there that have been with Democrats, who share our values, and we will take their money. But we’re not taking money from those bad billionaires” - New DNC Head Martin

The DNC is run by corporate democrats which, aside from the hate, racism and bigotry, might well be the on the same team as Republicans when it comes to facilitating the actions of the wealthy in this country. Its why nothing materially changes when Dems run the show. Their wealthy donors are happy with the job they are doing currently, which doesn't include improving the quality of life for the vast majority of us because it is easier to exploit a populous that is teetering on the edge of ruin. How many of you cant change jobs because you'd lose your insurance? How few Americans have 500 dollars in the bank for a catastrophic emergency? The fact that we have to live in such a precarious position is a feature to the wealthy that allows them to exploit us for their significant personal gains. They don't see us as people, they see us as a resource to exploit and toss when they are done.

Did Biden push for Universal healthcare, or even talk about it really? What about pressing for codifying of Roe v. Wade? Or wage theft being, from a dollar perspective, the vast majority of theft that occurs in this country? Marijuana reform? Better to leave that as a carrot to try to get votes as they've shown in the last 3 elections... What about taxing the rich as a rebuttal to the constant assault on social services that help the most vulnerable in our society yet account for the smallest fraction of the actual budget? Or upholding the law and holding Trump and his cronies for the January 6th attack on our nation, which should have prevented Trump from running in the first place? The wealthy in this country are seeing their wealth explode from a government that today has enabled them to wholesale embrace corruption by attacking regulatory and oversight bodies... wonder why they didnt want Trump to be held accountable...

Biden did things in his term to help Americans to an extent, but these Donkeys in the room are glaring examples of areas that Biden had flat out ignored or intentionally neglected us. The reason to me is that the money didn't support those initiatives.... i.e. not in the donors interests.

Remember that the DNC put Biden there, and if we let them they will happily keep playing the role of controlled opposition as a fulcrum to leverage our nation to the right while giving lip service to the things we care about and enriching themselves with our donations.

I remember when Elon Musk was a "good billionaire" friend. In my opinion there are no good billionaires because the pursuit of money to that extent requires exploitation and abuse on a grand scale.

So yeah I don't give a fuck if he has all the money in the world, I don't think money should be the deciding factor in elections. I don't think that any string a billionaire offers is worth it.

If we run a candidate who's values authentically align with what Dem voters want, why turn down donations?

Because they can tell you all day that they align with your values and then suddenly they don't. Remember Elon Musk? Tech billionaire, "real life tony stark", whose electric vehicles were going to usher in a new era of renewable transportation... People lie.

He didn't say that they could be relied on. He said he'd take their fucking money. Why do you think that's an unpragmatic strategy?

Because I understand how the world works? That concessions are made in back room deals and that the money doesn't change hands until the buyer feels confident they are getting what they want? We know how this goes.

I would forego all billionaire donations to ensure the party wasn't being controlled by back room interests, you know the deals made to get the contribution? They aren't adhering to campaign finance limits they are drowning out normal Americans with their outside influence.

“Billionaire campaign spending on this scale drowns out the voices and concerns of ordinary Americans. It is one of the most obvious and disturbing consequences of the growth of billionaire fortunes, as well as being a prime indicator that the system regulating campaign finance has collapsed,” said David Kass, ATF’s executive director.

"We'll continue to take money from the Good Billionaires" - New DNC head

Both parties are owned by the wealthy, which is why you don't see Corporate democrats fighting against this shit. Their job is to make sure that if things don't go red, at least they won't go too blue. A good chunk (and the controlling collective) of the democratic party are more than happy to play the controlled opposition as they rake in your money to ensure you can't use it to meaningfully make change.
