I disagree with your framing. I think you're being dishonest in your framing on what caused the mod actions. At the end of the day we and Ada are beholden to our respective users, and as it turns out, they think those were the right choices.

And yes, we're going to take action about harassment of our own users, that's the duty of an instance admin. I want to point out however that all this brouhaha is over a 7days ban. Literally the mildest of punishments ever, and you're at the point of pondering what's rotten in the whole instance and writing walls of text, over a short term "chill out" ban.

Ye, we obviously can have some acerbic users as well, can't avoid it 12k registrations. But if someone is too toxic consistently, we tend to get rid of them. Still doesn't make the instance tankie thought πŸ˜…

They are not normally tankies

What, in your opinion, makes us "tankies" from what you just said? Respect for the neopronouns, intolerance towards Genai-hater trolls, or mod actions towards someone who went on a harassment campaign towards one of our users?

Anarchists always had very similar critiques towards capitalism as Marxists. Where we differ is what we do about it, and these actions is what can label someone a "tankie"

This stinks of astroturfing

3 mods for 12k active users? This is not nearly enough imho

[–] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 2 weeks ago

Oh man, I have a lot of tankie sealions to post about

These are admins

They also track your unique phone identifiers and your browser. Better be good at scrubbing

Honestly, even if Linus is completely in the right, this kind of behaviour is not ok. Good that his therapy took him out of that mindspace.

Spoiler this with a content warning please. I know you want to present a sample of the harassment, but you're also effectively "boosting" it.

I think people shorten it based on the domain name, so I doubt this would work.

New functionality can be configured through two new .env vars. You can use this functionality to deny things like known spam or potentially abuse of the registration form. In our instance for example we use it to autoblock people who put a word we explicitly say they shouldn't mention.

After yet another bot scraping wave forcing me to do sysadmin work at 3am, and me ranting about it on lemmy, @self@awful.systems linked me to a post that referenced iocaine which sounded a perfect way to get back on bots that don't respect our resources and time.

At the same time, we recently on-boarded @tenchiken@lemmy.dbzer0.com as an extra sysadmin to reduce the "bus factor" of our instance (say hello), and they graciously offered some spare compute they had lying around. So I thought, since serving iocaine to bots doesn't really require any serious uptime, why not put it those resources to good use.

So after a couple of hours messing up with things, I've now deployed iocaine to protect our instance as well as fediseer. This should hopefully start messing back with these bastards by serving them some surrealistic nonsense I had squirreled away.

If you want to see this in action, set your user agent to GPTBot and visit our instance. If you find yourself trapped in iocaine somehow, just let us know.

Very insightful interview. Worth watching to see what life before and after prison is from a radical anarchist perspective. Also a lot of ideas on how you can actually provide support even if you don't have the time or energy for much of activism.

And I'm all for it! Every month amazing new ones are coming out.

Currently on my wishlist or waiting for the full release to not burn out on the EA version.

  • Hades 2
  • Slay the Spire 2
  • Monster Train 2
  • 9Kings
  • Mewgenics

I love how much the spirit of rogue has been infused in the current generation of games.
