In hypersonic capabilities? Absolutely. Greedy and ineffective defense contractors that have a perverse incentive to not deliver quickly so as to continue getting money for research programs are part of it. They paper over it with rosy rigged tests and language at times in like interceptor tests.

Make them think America has these super-advanced alien-derived beyond beyond next generation super wunder-craft that they'll have no choice but to unleash in a direct conflict. The goal being to give more weight to US credibility to try and dissuade them from challenging the US in Taiwan or elsewhere when they act.

However it really doesn't matter, unless these craft have energy barrier force fields around them or can move absolutely ridiculously, impossibly fast (doubt, they'd have applied it to interceptor tech or a next-gen missile program by now but they still lag behind Russia/China) they can still be hit and taken out by hyper-sonic missiles even if they could give them a theoretical advantage in dog-fighting with jets.

Come to think of it that seems as good a reason as any as the US is increasingly lacking credibility because of Ukraine, inventing this myth that we have these super secret alien-derived wunder-craft which we've been hiding and avoiding using would do wonders for the psyche of the western militarist which is going to get quite a rattling soon when Ukraine loses. They can just claim we didn't dare unleash them there because we didn't want Russia to have a chance to study them and are holding them in reserve for any kind of direct conflict.

It fucks with our heads as girls, lies to us, gas-lights us, normalizes (even romanticizes) abuse, sends conflicting messages to us and then men are "shocked-pikachu-face" when some amount of women are messed up by this and accept or perpetuate the cycle of abuse by seeking out or continually falling into the clutches of manipulative men who are good at identifying and seeking out vulnerable women. (And yes there are women out there who do the same to men but they are a minority of a minority compared to the men who do the same because, shocker, patriarchy enables male abuse and provides victims)

Women don't know what they want they say. Well have we as a whole had a choice historically? Or have we been married off to our rapists? To men our fathers choose for land, wealth, influence, or a few chickens and a cow? When have women been in charge of setting the agenda for ourselves across culture? Never in modern history, never in the last 500 years in the west and western influenced cultures. Instead what we want has been told to us, drilled into us, blasted into us. Both blatantly and subconsciously through cultural indoctrination. We have been distorted by this. All of humanity, our sexuality, our relationships are distorted by this and getting out of it is a gradual process. It was not erected in a lifetime and it will take more than a lifetime to entirely tear down.

Best part is they'll eventually ban Genzedong, remove/scrub that reddit thread and random online haters (same variety making ridiculous claims about Lemmy's devs) will begin to claim the removed reddit sources actually were proof of actual genzedong users actually physically attacking Uyghurs.

It's almost inevitable with the game of telephone they're playing. Just launder something enough time through enough sources while being vague and generous with words and it magically becomes fact to everyone but super serious and honest academics (e.g. not the type who write this garbage) who really don't impact the discourse at all anyways as if one discovered it and wrote anything at all it'd probably be a 1-2line citation in some voluminous work mostly unrelated to the fact, a total aside that they researched it and found it false, which obviously will never be seen by anyone.

Half a million for this is both hilarious and sad. On the one hand that could have funded several researchers doing actual science for the public benefit so it's a tragedy, on the other they grifted half a million dollars for what isn't even 50k of work IMO. I mean this is stuff that random hobbyists do in their free time in about a month or less and post on subreddits about data visualization for free.

On the other hand money is not really an object when it comes to fighting the enemies of capital and empire so a small price to pay I'm sure. And better spent here (in their minds) than on researching actual hate groups and extremists like Nazis, channer-fash, alt-right, Qanon weirdos, etc which while it could be done to this caliber would obviously look a little lacking for the 500k considering there are private groups that do far better research on them and publish far better reports for far less money.

Also I love how they didn't connect us to the only real anti-pedophile podcast subreddit (Brace noises) or thedeprogram, guess we don't have that many casual links but if they checked overlap it should be there. Sloppy work on that in addition to all the problems with methodology, definitions, etc. Hilarious tax dollars paid for this though I guess I'd prefer it over actually effort-driven papers and even better it might encourage other lazy anti-communists to cite them, creating a chain of weak links back to a shoddy base that can be knocked away in heavy discourse and leave anti-communists flailing and drifting. Of course the downside is actual policy isn't driven by hard peer reviewed science and part of the purpose of a shoddy paper like this could be to give a cite-able pretext to say private companies on why they need to immediately censor "tankies" and any discourse that their shoddy, shitty, "ai-data-'science'" says is related to that.

Do make sure your rips are good high bitrate ones if you can. It makes all the difference in being able to software upscale in video players successfully and generally making them look more acceptable in the HD age (1500-2000kbps for HEVC, 2000-3000kbps for AVC, 3000+ for anything older like mpeg2).

Whenever I need to do DVDs (no HD source) I tend to go for the direct rips with vob files and convert myself (unless I can find good encodes from a group like QxR or TAoE or private trackers Internals) as the older avi rips you find are typically just low quality from another age.

And yeah, proper ML up-scaling is incredibly intensive. You need a good high core count processor and probably 3-6 hours per half hour of video if not twice that.
