My son rode his bike across Saskatoon for work during this cold. Didn't even slow him down. Not sure if he's stupid, crazy, or brave.

OS/2 was great in its time. I'd very much like to see it open sourced, even though IBM has repeatedly refused.

Slackware went from version 4 to 7 for a similar reason. But IIRC its reason was RedHat.

Tyler Durden was on the right track, but Elliot Alderson took it much further. We'd need both to do it right.

That's actually fascinating. I knew there were free black soldiers in the Union, but none in the south is mind boggling.

Our history classes coverage of the US civil war was basically: "we don't want that fighting shit up here, so provinces were given less power, and we joined together because we needed to be able to defend ourselves in case the Union invades us."

Without looking and never studying American history, I bet >3% of the confederate soldiers were black slave soldiers fighting because their "owners" made them..

A movie where two characters traded faces. One a crimelord of some sort, another an FBI dude or somesuch.

That sounds a lot like Canadian (and also British) constitutional theory. The King is powerless himself. He just wears the crown, the Crown has all the power. The King wears the crown, and parliament controls it.

Boomer shooter and modern aren't mutuallg exclusive. I liked TB's classification: "Modern military shooter".

I taught my son in my father's Mustang instead of my (much) newer car. Yes traction control, but no shift indicator, no telling you what gear it thinks you should be in, no holding the brake on a hill, no automatic releasing of the parking brake, no lane keep assist and no backup camea.
