Also, grow your own herbs. Herbs are easy to grow, but fresh herbs are expensive. If you live in an apartment, see if there's a nearby community garden where you can rent a plot. It's usually no more than $30/year, so it pays off really quickly. You can specialise in what you grow, and swap excess with people growing other things.

Yeah, they look lovely, but the allergens!

Anything more it just plateaus.

No it doesn't. I get minimum 20k steps/day, and I get other guys (as well as the occasional woman) telling me I have nice legs. You may get diminishing returns above 6k, but more is better.

I'm sorry to say that canceling a dead man's TPG internet service was very difficult. Good luck.

But why are they turning more of the Upfield line into an elevated railway when they can’t even deliver on promised light rail for Fisherman’s Bend? Some of the level crossings are still a pain, but the traffic flows a lot better now that there are a few more major east-west roads crossing the Upfield line without level crossings.

Tacos are getting pricey around Melbourne. I used to occasionally get tacos at Paco’s Tacos in the city (500 Bourke St), but that’s closed. La Tortilleria (Kensington) is one of the more authentic Mexican restaurants in Melbourne, so maybe give that a try. Or just make them at home – then you can adjust them for your personal tastes, and the kids have fun filling their own tacos.

It is tasty if done well, and it’s a good source of nutrients, especially for vegetarians.

Falafel from take-away places is hit-and-miss. There’s probably more bad falafel than good falafel being sold in Australia. If you went to a random kebab joint and bought a falafel roll, I wouldn’t bet on it being good.

You can make it at home. If you do, you need to soak the chickpeas in water but don’t cook them before grinding them. If you cook the chickpeas first, they’ll break up while deep frying. It can take a few goes to work out how to get the oil temperature and cooking time right, so it cooks through while being crispy but not burned on the outside. There’s also the issue of having to clean up your own kitchen after deep frying.

It doesn’t need to be. The defining part is that it’s a deep fried ball of ground chick peas or broad beans (or a mixture). It usually has parsley, garlic, cummin and coriander for flavouring.

Porque no los dos?

Can’t believe I’m the first to say this.

There was a restaurant in the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne serving possum caught in Tasmania. I can’t remember the name of it. There was also one in Stawell. Before European settlement, possums were widely hunted for meat and fur in Victoria.

And this thread has indeterminate language. Fun times!

Correct, and it also meant several people here didn’t see it until I told them to change their language filtering preferences.

It’s also going to confuse people who’ve configured Lemmy to show Indonesian language content who suddenly end up with this in their feeds.
