Exactly, it's my "make them presentable" procedure, really. I'll never brag about how well they look but they definitely have more presence than plain grey.

And I agree, not all board games have high quality minis unfortunately. But I've rarely encountered any that didn't look better with a primer / base layer, some wash and/or dry brush.

Plus I really enjoy differentiating them a bit by picking hues for the ink and highlights that match the character class or monster type etc. But that is really as far as I'm selling to go nowadays. :)

It used to be Relay for me as well. Other apps had neat features I wish Relay had gotten as well, but I couldn't get away from its neat UI and UX even though I tried pretty much every third-party reddit app there was.

I'm certainly sad to leave a handful of my favorite communities behind but Reddit overall can burn down for all I care. Even before the API BS and Huffmann lying through his teeth the Reddit experience had gotten more and more annoying aside from the coziest of subreddits.

Time to move on and perhaps some of the app devs try their hand at a sleek threadiverse app with all of the QoL goodies.

As in "You know nothing, Jon Snoo"? :')

I had been wondering whether that was just me. Kind of odd aspect ration for the vast majority of thumbnails too.

Looking forward to the updated materials for 2.0 myself, and I'm glad that AR offered them as a complete upgrade pack for the original backers. In Fall of Avalon, without houseruling resource gathering and menhir maintenance (menh-tenance?) the map exploration could easily become an exercise in masochism tbh.

So I'm happy that they toned that down in 2.0 and are going a different way with the wyrdstones in Kings of Ruin :)

I mean, Frosthaven isn't going to run away so take your time and enjoy the content you already have. Absolutely nothing wrong with that!
My group managed to unlock all of the classes (including youknowwho) and we played each at least once with the curious exception of the Tinkerer.

I'd love to give Crimson Scales and Trail of Ashes a go but we are looking to start Frosthaven with the group and I'll likely embark upon all five cycles of AT:O solo in a few weeks.

Yeah I feel like if you are able to take the randomness in stride better than I do then that is much less of an issue.

It doesn't throw me nearly as much when a game is really short; like ten, fifteen minutes a round - because then who cares whether you got (un)lucky. You just make the best of it and next round things may be different.
But Wingspan is just long enough that I didn't enjoy myself several times when I happened to get a bad inital draw and not much in the market to mitigate.

Utterly unconnected to Wingspan other than being another Stonemayer title, but I'm really looking forward to getting Expeditions and giving that a go :)

I don't have the time and patience to do a real paintjob for minis anymore. I used to do individual character minis whith whatever talent I have but for board games I just try and make them not look a drab grey.

I like to do either a discount Sundrop especially when the game's theme is darker, or alternatively prime in a light color and then wash with one or two suitable inks.

Both of those techniques don't take an exorbitant amount of time and effort but make minis a lot easier on the eye, plus more easily identifiable.

Wow, thanks so much for doing this - and also for making them accessible without having to go back to Reddit!

The /b/boardgames community and all of its great resources is one of those things I have been missing the most and I'm glad to see the community transcend any singular platform. :)

Aeon Trespass: Odyssey without a doubt. It's expansive, complex, punishing, rich and has such an amazing narrative.
Heavy campaign games that tell a story are what I am all about and AT:O is the pinnacle of this for me at this point.

That said, I also enjoy Frosthaven quite a bit (Gloomhaven as well because the mechanics are sublime, but the story is definitely a weak point); Legacy of Dragonholt is basically a solo-RPG in a board game box; Sleeping Gods is simpler but nice; Tainted Grail, Etherfields and ISS Vanguard are very neat narratively especially when taking the edge off the resource grind; and finally I am looking forward to the second printing of Oathsworn to fulfill.
Oh, The Hunters A.D. 2114 has been very neat too and I'm looking forward to the new The Hunters A. D. 1492 whenever that is done.

So many great story campaign games and so little time .(especially when getting a group to commit)

Sorry to say but I really don't. Wingspan is one of the few games I'd rather sit out than join a table to play. It's simply too prone to RNG for me to enjoy and I have been bored playing every time.

Not saying the game itself is bad but it is not for me nor I for it. Earth is similar but more enjoyable for me - but if I can I'd rather play something more complex.

Not knocking anyone who does enjoy this one or owns all of the content, mind you. Just wanted to add that, trivially, indeed not everyone enjoys everything that's popular. :)

I know that I certainly believed this article to be very well crafted satire at first. Because how could it possibly so very on the nose in reality?
