My kid would keep asking why kissing god's ass takes up 4 commandments, they spend one on jealousy, and yet somehow miss slavery.

I do this too and I think, for me, it's two parts.

  1. Neurotic self analysis / self evaluation coupled with
  2. An actual interaction where I chose poorly that day.

I over evaluate myself generally, so when I do make any mistake socially, my mind will find out on later self analysis and bug me about it.

I find it annoying now and try to dismiss it and go back to sleep. Half the time the thing my mind is fixated on is baseless anyway.

The new wave of letters comes amid IRS plans to reverse “historically low audit rates” of large corporations, complex partnerships and higher earners.

Fruit from the GOPs kneecapping of the IRS.

I'm worried their plan is to wait until after the election. If Trump is elected, they then rule he has absolute power and democracy is basically dead at that point.

I wouldn't say it's "benign." The whole gesture has a self aggrandizing tone to me. "Look at me and how hard I am praying." Only the most full of themselves types of Christians pray this way and in front of cameras.

How about "I used to be a fan but the Yankee's fucking ruined the entire sport for me?"

Also, I bet “I hate the NY Yankees, but I’m not a sports fan." is said multiple times per day across America in various contexts. For example the guy that has to park next to the stadium or the non enthusiast spouse of an over the top fan.
