Yep, and it's a lot more successful than you'd think. I've been using it for over a year now and I literally have not come across a sponsored video yet that hasn't had its sponsored segments reported. Not even on videos that were uploaded literally 10 minutes ago. Highly recommend

Congrats, that already exists as a browser addon and it's free. Look up sponsorblock.

Hard embedding ads works for live streams since you can't know when exactly any given ad will start or end. If Youtube were to do this, it would be very trivial for sponsorblock to simply take on the role of adblocker since the community would be able to report the location of the ads.

Is the Nasrallah speech on Friday really expected to be that big a deal? When it first came up, I didn't think too much about it considering it was scheduled an entire week away. Surely if it was that important, they'd want to put it out ASAP, right? My assumption was that it'd just be Nasrallah summarizing the situation, giving another strongly worded denouncement of Israel, and then business as usual.

Thankfully Starlink satellites are in a low enough orbit that they aren't a significant Kessler syndrome risk. At an altitude of 550km, satellite orbits typically decay into the atmosphere in a matter of months to a year. Such a debris cloud could absolutely fuck anything else already orbiting at that altitude, but it won't shut down all space travel for the long term.

It's based, actually. So is stealing from businesses. In fact, if piracy really was the same as stealing, I'd definitely make a point of pirating more often

My family is definitely poor and half of us are latino, so lead poisoning of some degree is not too unlikely. But I do agree that it is probably not why they're like this specifically.

Wtf, they banned you for "incivility" for your comments in the thread about removing downvotes? I didn't see you make even a single a comment that could even possibly be construed as incivility, I only saw you making reasonable arguments about something you're passionate about it. If that's what they think Hexbearian incivility looks like, then I can't imagine how they'd react to being on the wrong side of the dog pilings and dunkings we give to proper reactionaries.

If nothing else, I think our admin team needs to make a point to sit down and have a talk with lemmygrad's to hash this out and push for them to unban you and apologize for being overly dismissive of your valid concerns. I don't think this yet rises to level of requiring defederation, Lemmygrad is without a doubt the most similar forum to Hexbear on the entire internet, and it'd be a massive shame to lose all of their cool users. But eliminating transphobia is extremely important to us, and if lemmygrad cares about the union of our two communities, then they should be willing to compromise every once in a while. That doesn't necessarily mean removing downvotes, but it does mean taking a more pro-active stance on rooting out transphobia even if they haven't personally been effected by it enough to notice.

This was me a couple weeks ago at a family gathering, except with wild transphobic shit instead of wild malthusian shit. One minute they were all sitting in agreement talking about how rich people don't give a shit about any of us, which was so based of them that it surprised me. But the conversation somehow devolved into them saying the most evil shit imaginable when the topic of transgender kids in sports came up. I wanted to speak up so badly, but I'm not financially independent at the moment and I'm already the black sheep of the family, I'm sure it would have only made it worse.

I swear, American boomers are some of the most fucking demented people on this planet. I really want to say its the lead poisoning that made them so vulnerable to this strand of brain worms, but I get the feeling in the back of my mind that explanation is a cope. Please fucking shoot me in the head if I get like this about some other topic when I get old.

Tbh, I lose some amount of respect for anyone who mentions they pay for media that is easily accessed through piracy, netflix included

What chain of events would need to happen in order for Israel to fall without using their nukes? The nukes are probably the only reason other countries haven't intervened yet, and I'm not really seeing how that changes regardless of how much Israel ramps up the Palestinian genocide. What is the bloomer take on freeing Palestine?

Evil and eternally upward failing fucks like Kamala Harris make me especially mad on a visceral level. Here this woman has spent the majority of her career as a prosecutor casting thousands upon thousands into slavery on drug charges, meanwhile she is clearly a barely functioning addict. Pieces of shit like her believe in absolutely nothing. She'd be horrifying if she wasn't so utterly incompetent at everything she does.
