Eventually it absolutely will be universal.

But modern tech isn't that and doesn't have a particular promising path towards that. Most of the investment in heavily scaling up current hardware comes from a place of not understanding the technology or its limitations. Blindly throwing cash at buzzwords without some level of understanding (you don't need to know how to cure cancer to invest in medicine, but you should probably know crystals don't do it) of what you're throwing money at is going to get you in trouble.

Escalated like running arbitrary code on someone else's computer to decide if they're allowed to visit your site?

It's not possible to be an acceptable human being and think that's OK.

I think their examples are the kind of actual outcomes that should be addressed. Yours absolutely also are, but their core concept is "focus on the actual shit we see being fucked up instead of imaginary future shit that's might theoretically eventually be a concern but is just not a real world issue with anything resembling the tech we have today".

I appreciate this answer. The other posts showing the math are still cool, but in theory I could do it myself.

You highlighted shit that wouldn't occur to me.

It's perfectly possible to understand how the internet works without being a piece of shit who thinks they're entitled to dictate the software choices of their customers.

FWIW I'm not implying that you're not allowed to do whatever you want. I'm definitely not about the games that use always online to force you to play to the ~~developer's~~ publishers (cash grab) vision. Even if you "cheat" on a single player game who cares?

It just for me wouldn't be particularly enjoyable to just randomly turn my warlock into a bard to make an encounter better or whatever. I would want the bard to earn their level as a bard.

Some of those for sub-$100 don't look awful.

I won't ever use them instead of my steam deck though.

if you don't respond to calls and signals, you are viewed as a potential threat

This is unconditionally unacceptable behavior and an inexcusable and unforgivable violation of privacy. It is not and cannot under any circumstances be your business what a user does on their own computer while connected to your site. There are no exceptions.

Willfully terminating a connection for anything resembling that in any way should automatically get your domain seized with no path to ever getting it back.

A confidential source contacted the newspaper, Meyer said, and provided evidence that Newell had been convicted of drunken driving and continued to use her vehicle without a driver’s license. The criminal record could jeopardize her efforts to obtain a liquor license for her catering business.

A reporter with the Marion Record used a state website to verify the information provided by the source. But Meyer suspected the source was relaying information from Newell’s husband, who had filed for divorce. Meyer decided not to publish a story about the information, and he alerted police to the situation.

Ignoring all the obvious issues with the legality of a search in general, this was all triggered by the newspaper using discretion and not publishing the story?

How the fuck do you think that's going to serve your needs?

It's been a thing forever (well over a decade). You're playing a casual pickup basketball game and one dude is diving on the ground for loose balls near other people's legs and playing really grabby defense? People will notice and say shit.

It's not a review bombing to review a deliberately hostile game as a bad game.

I don't think it refers to effort level alone. It's about doing obnoxious, unfun things to get marginal (at best) advantages.

For example, the only game I really still play multiplayer is Madden. If I hold a dude to 4th and 15 and they go for it, I know damn well it's going to be a boring shitshow of a game until they rage quit. They're going to turn it over on downs because that's not a convertible play, I'm going to get an easy touchdown, they're going to be even more stupidly aggressive on the next possession because now they're behind, and it's going to be a blowout where I'm just waiting for them to quit because there's no way they're going to play it out for a whole game.

That's a try hard. Someone just winning and making intelligent gambles isn't.
