The userbase is not that important with activity pub. If the features are good they can grow slowly and still enjoy the whole fediverse. Of course it is important to have users at all. Otherwise it doesn't make sense to put work on the software.
Ich habe diese Woche kaum was gemacht bei der Arbeit. Irgendwie wollten meine grauen Zellen nicht so.
The problem is not the data. Only the central nature and the dependency on a central point.
As pretty as that would be it has its problems. For this to work you need an authentication service. If you use that service for everything then your accounts are linked to this auth provider and you get a problem if that service goes down. You create a single point of failure.
That being said matrix and mastodon support oauth providers. So it is possible to have unified authentication provider for these two. Lemmy doesn't support this yet.
You don't understand: it is not good if something is popular. Then there are people outside my bubble and they ruin it.
The great thing is that if a lot of people like Mastodon they can use it and if you don't like it you can use something differenent and you will still be able to communicate. That's the whole point.
I mean this sucks but you could also just not eat any chicken.

I think the biggest problem is that employers used to require that we do all the work we can do. The easiest way to achieve that is to observe that no one is slacking off. With Home Office there is suddenly a need to find out what is a reasonable workload. They seem to fear that they don't get occupy the employees 100% of the time and as usual on capitalism it is not enough when you produce enough bit when you produce all you can.
