Slept so terribly last night. Woke up multiple times, couldn't get comfy. So strange! I went to sleep so comfy...

No worries. I'm currently a PhD student.

I haven't really broken into the field. I do write but don't consider it a strength, I do consider my verbal communication skills to be my strength.

I've just seen enough from the PhD students around me who are all struggling. We don't see much hope in terms of employment. There are many generations of Masters/PhD students ahead of you who have just graduated and are looking for roles.

Not to say you shouldn't do it, just know that it isn't a guarantee that it'll help you stand out. But you will gain new skills (hopefully) which could help you find a job.

I've seen some more technical roles come up where having a PhD would maybe make people consider you overqualified.

I quite enjoyed this article. Well written by the author, and they spoke to academics and indigenous people. Great to get the perspective from both. I'm intrigued by yams now....

What roles are you looking for? I'm quite familiar with the academic market as I have 3 degrees at this point. .

My advice is to keep looking for technical roles. I'm not sure what's your background, but don't fall into the trap of doing more research degrees to become more competitive for hiring because the market for hiring people with research Masters/PhDs is fucked.

I know the decline of Twitter has been coming, but with Elon rebranding it as X, and reddits collapse, I bet many people (including me) are just waiting for a viable other option to come along.

Threads I only had like one look at and doesn't appeal.

Lemmy is OK but the layout IS confusing. Without the DT I'd be checking Lemmy less ..

What's your preferred flavour?

$2,200 is pretty paltry... what those residents were put through was pretty awful . It was a tough time for all Melbournians I can't imagine what it was like to be essentially under guard in those towers. .

I feel like I'm much faster swiping.

Anecdotally, around me I'm the only one that swipes. I see a lot of my friends don't swipe, and have even had people ask me about it.

Yeah what's with this nine dash line shit.

Not even sure why a world map is even in Barbie...

I've finally succumbed to the reddit API changes.

Lemmy is still a bit strange to me, but I think I'm finally getting it to the point of being similar to what I was seeing on Reddit (albeit with much fewer users and therefore less content).

I'm glad to see the Melbourne daily thread be active here.

Seeing how few users there are on Lemmy also makes me feel like I want to be more active?! I was much more of a lurker on Reddit.

I've been in Darwin for Territory Day. It's actually a real sight to behold. Small fires everywhere... saw a playground on fire even.
