While that's true, those weapons are currently under the control of a fascist government and increasingly desperate despot, so I don't see how them being in the hands of mercs is any worse. At least you know what mercs are motivated by.

If Russia didn't invade their neighbours, they would have nothing to fear from NATO. it's really easy, I spun up my own instance in a morning. Ok, I am a sysadmin and programmer, but it really wasn't very difficult and didn't require much beyond creating a VPS and DNS entry along with basic abilities at the command line to use the ansible playbook.
Could we be refusing to accept it as truth because it isn't true? In what way has the US destabilised Ukraine? How did the US make Russia invade Ukraine? I can't find a way to make either of these statements make any sense at all. I'm British FYI and we have our own bone to pick with the Russians.
It feels strange, this argument that we (the western world) made Russia invade another country and rape children. If only Russia didn't have to invade another country and rape their women and children! If only! You all seem to be starting from the basis that downloading a torrent is illegal. It is not, it is only distribution/upload that's an issue. If you behave as a leech and kill it after you're done the worst you're going to get is a complaining letter from your ISP.
I torrent without a VPN and haven't had a single email from my ISP, but I presume it's because I'm a business customer.

There's nothing wrong with using a game controller to steer the thing, I think the issue is more the lack of backup or failsafes.
Also, I'm very much a layperson in this field, but would it have not made sense to tether this thing to a ship on the surface? They could have kept in contact with the surface via the tether and had them reel the thing back in if there were problems with its propulsion or steering.
I saw the video of its interior. As someone who has claustrophobia, it's absolute nightmare fuel. It's a cylinder about 15 feet long and maybe 6 feet wide that you can't even stand up in. It's going to be very unpleasant for 5 people.
