Crushposting: After everyone else left, I gathered my stuff, made a “well look at the time, better leave” comment, and was obviously about to leave, but we two somehow stayed for an hour more. At one point they got up and moved over to the seat next to mine instead of opposite, admittedly to show me something on their phone but still, they kept sitting there afterwards. Again, they did most of the talking, but also, if they would rather have wanted me gone, they would have stopped talking and acted more bored and kept a distance. So at the very least they [checks notes] “don’t hate my guts” and “don’t fear my presence”. I really don’t want to delude myself – it’s entirely possible that I unknowingly brought up one of their special interests, upon which they couldn’t stop talking about it (which would unfortunately make a lot of sense...) My “see you tomorrow?” – “no” – “what a shame” at least got a smile and a “but next week maybe”. So somehow, I both cannot take a hint, and I am a master of self-delusion.
