The house wasn't productive before McCarthy getting the boot, so I don't see why you view this as a step back. McCarthy was a terrible speaker for most Americans, even most Republicans. He let himself be completely held hostage by the most radical wing of his party, constantly broke public promises, refused to work across the aisle (until he was getting voted out when he expected the left to bail him out, immediately after reneging on several promises, both regarding the govt shutdown and the impeachment).

The only thing he managed at all in his final days was to narrowly avoid a govt shutdown due to squabbling among his own people, and even there he only barely delayed it.

The hope is that his successor will learn from his mistake and get the votes he/she needs from moderate democrats rather than bowing down to every demand from the most unhinged members of his party

Tl;Dr he was objectively terrible at his job, even for moderate republicans and the odds are low that we'll be worse off with whatever replacement is chosen for him

Depends on your personal priorities, I'm certainly not trying to tell you what to care about, I was just elaborating on why people might care more about tik toks spying than Metas. Personally, you won't find either on my phone

What exactly is wrong with porn ads like those shown in the image? I'd have no issue if pornhub put up a billboard in my town that just said "Got Porn?", as long as the billboard itself isn't featuring explicit images, what's the harm?

Both types are bad and should be avoided, but I think there is a difference between a private US company invading your privacy, and literal CCP sponsored Spyware, particularly when you're a member of a nation that CCP is actively targeting for espionage and surveillance (not that the US isn't doing likewise, to still the crys of whataboutism)

Yeah I completely agree, cigarettes are a symptom, but when the actual cute is a long hard road, treating symptoms is a totally reasonable course.

Also, cigarettes don't provide an escape from reality, they only provide an escape for nicotine cravings. Literally the only reason to smoke is because you have to (or you're dumb and curious), it doesn't get you high or anything like that

Citizens united is also a symptom though, frankly I think we're at the point where we either need a whole slew of constitutional ammendments, or a whole new one altogether, but I don't see how either of those options is happening any time soon

Regarding the societal collapse point, I really doubt that gold would be much in that scenario unless you can escape somewhere where things are relatively "normal", in a genuine survival situation, bread is worth more than gold

Don't make the mistake I did and assume that your server is too small or inconsequential to get hacked - a hacking attempt is a matter of "if" not when, but turning off password Auth and adding fail2ban will get you locked up tight
