Huh, that's it? I think my free 150GB on my server will do nicely then. I plan to cap my user count at 100 (active) so it doesn't get out of hand.

I wonder how much disk space the big instances are using... I'm only at a dozen users. I have subscribed to most of the largest communities across the "threadiverse" so my instance is caching a copy of everything happening across those. I'm under 2GB space used so far.

I imagine it's mostly the media uploads. I think that doesn't get cached, just the text. But anything a user uploads will get saved to their instance's storage. I think.

They never had to do the AMA in the first place. It's baffling really, there were absolutely ZERO good outcomes for Reddit here.

Considering his several passive aggressive statements about Apollo over the course of the AMA, and the sheer irrationality for him to do it at all and especially to double down, I can only assume this is all fueled by egotistical rage.

Which is a complete lie. It's never enough for capitalists, they're never going to stop being profit driven.

That's why I'm capping it at 100. That might be permanent. I don't need a huge community. I don't need growth. Federation provides more than enough content.

Plus considering probably 8/10 users will only login once or twice, realistically I'm looking at 1-2 dozen actual users. I can work from there and see what I can handle.

I really don't think he's gonna go for it

I think some dev of one of the two said they're trying to make their APIs basically identical, so I'd imagine maybe.

It's surprising how much higher the average rate of interaction is here. Maybe it's just all the excitement.

Oh and also here's another notification for ya

Not yet. I want to watch and participate in the absolute chaos happening. It's a train wreck, great entertainment.

But as soon as the API key is revoked I'm gone. Well I already spend more time here.

I'm opening up my server to about 100 users. My server seemed a bit overkill for one account so I figured may as well help a little. We'll see what usage looks like and maybe I can add more people without it starting to get expensive.

Go back to being open source, become a non-profit.

Basically not gonna happen.

The profit motive will just recreate this same scenario no matter what they promise.

I don't think it's true that such things are illegal in the US at least, but yes, this one should be delisted.

If I recall correctly, as long as you can tell it's not real it's legal. But it's still gross. It'll be the first server that my instance is defederating.
