It can reduce evaporation and reduce algae growth afaik. It doesn’t have to be bad.

Though … swimming vertical solar panels are also a thing.

That can happen, but I don't think that's the point. a) big companies could invest in expensive research like nobody else (aside from state research) b) these hubs are often about having the right companies and universities in one place, which results in employees and graduates spinning out their own innovative start ups, because the region has all the knowhow and manufacturing they need c) most big companies don't do very risky innovation, instead they buy successful startups to build upon them, but that can still be innovative if they buy them early on and finance further research

Didn’t notice anything here in Germany, but honestly don’t pay much attention to drinks aside from syrups. But I think there was a peak in new cola spinoffs from 2005-2015. Generally there’s always be a counter movement with varying success. We have brands which should be 90 years old by now. The organic and fair trade movements lead to new drinks, including cola. There was also a cooperative of mineral water companies that tried to counter Coca-Cola with Kolanade, but that brand vanished and they are now best known for a standardized deposit bottle.

I know at least one person who thought about getting it lasered

Honestly never heard of that, but I'm also a bit lost in translation. Does this have any relevance to a person that only uses olive and sunflower oil and doesn't eat any meat?

without chemical pesticides and fertilizers

Yes, we have some plants in our garden. But my mom does the planting and weed control.

What I’m referencing is that I’m eating wild strawberries, which I just water. It’s only a few here and there, but the big intentionally grown strawberries were mostly eaten by snails, despite my mom trying to kill them with snail pellets.

I also harvest wild oregano and spearmint, that all grows well.

The rest, which was planted, requires a lot of watering. Though that’s a good opportunity for me to get outside. But on a big field that would take a lot longer and be more annoying. Unless it’s raining that’s certainly something you have to do every day.

I’m not sure if my mom used some fertilizer, she sometimes does. But our main fertilizer is compost, though that’s definitely a lot of work and won’t scale neither.

But back to renewables… that should still improve the situation, since it allows at least automated irrigation and such. For big fields plowing doesn’t work with electric tractors yet afaik

Now I can’t 🫠

Isn’t it some form of renewables? Growing food with the sun.

Though I prefer to just water edible wild stuff occasionally instead of putting to much energy in growing it intentionally.
