Oh so it's not a new phenomenon. I'm not regular and I hadn't noticed it.
Huh, and that can reduce energy even while cruising then?
You're probably right. I keep forgetting the context he operates in. From propaganda perspective these tariffs are a perfect tool for him. They allow him to maintain the strong leader facade while having little economic effect. The fentanyl issue is something his base is concerned about so he loops than in to demonstrate he's taking care of it. We can live with that.
Don't know yet. The goal for me is minimize maintenance and maximize drivetrain life. With the current prices of chains and cassettes it's getting kinda ridiculous. I'm planning on waxing every 1000km and having chains last >10000km. I'm planning to extend the life of my current cassette by many years.
I got on the wax train with Silca's waxing system. It makes the whole thing quite trivial. All the tools are there and it removes the stripping step when using factory greased chains. I, like you, didn't feel like doing the whole mess before that.
Is it worth it? Don't know yet. Theoretically it should be. By a lot. Gotta see how chain wear grows on the waxed system. 😊
No experience with TPU.
They should only have significant effect during acceleration and deceleration. Once the wheel is spinning, whatever mass it is has stored the energy needed to spin it up so the mass doesn't affect the energy needed to keep it spinnig. Air drag tries to slow it down but that only acts on the outside of the tire which hasn't changed.
Acceleration takes a lot of energy and weight reduction in the wheels is very noticeable. I've no idea what the savings are in watts, but perhaps the energy saved during acceleration leaves more available for cruising? I don't know if you're saving enough for an extra 5-10kph at cruising speed, given that air drag grows exponentially. 5-10kph on top of 30kph is a lot, and on top of 40 - exponentially more.
Which leads me to the psychological boost. You're high on an upgrade and you push like a mf. We've all experienced the power boost you get evrery time you click the lever of a new high end shifter!
Probably a combination of those.
Post in time with reliability observations. How much top up they need in comparison to butyl, etc.
I'm running a container,
OMG, he's still on fentanyl, wow. He didn't even use the Palestinian statehood on this one. That's great. It means absolutely no one in Canada would be confused this is bullshit.
The TSX doesn't seem to have responded, so this either already baked in or everyone bets on TACO. Which makes sense either way because:
However, Canadian goods that meet the terms of the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement will not be subject to the tariff, which means the vast bulk of Canada's exports can still cross the border tariff-free.
So it's still just theatre. I'm not sure who the audience is at this point.
Yeah, I have a Panaracer Pasela PT and Gravel King on the same Mavic A719s, both tires are 38-622, one measures 37.5mm, the other 36mm. Pretty close to the spec unlike CST's innuendo. When I picked up the bike, I thought the manufacturer put the wrong tire on. 😂
Ironically drivers can do most to get themselves to move faster by lobbying hard for bike infrastructure and public transit (more so). The more other drivers get out of cars, the less off the number one contributor to traffic congestion. And there's tons of drivers who only drive due to lack of alternatives.
I don't know which one is best but I got a RAK WisMesh Pocket and it was trivial to get going. The stock antenna works. I now have one of these on it, which works better.
Interesting. In my anecdata they match within a couple of mm. I have two bikes with Panaracer currently, one has Pasela PT, the other one is Gravel King, both 38-622. One measures 37.5mm, the other 36mm. That said I've only ridden relatively narrow tires over the last decade 25-40mm so it's possible that the accuracy is higher in that range.
In any case X-Y with numbers like this really look like an ETRTO marking which according to the few tire manufacturers I've checked is how they size tires. Along with the traditional inch size conversion.
Even CST themselves correlate inch size to ETRTO size within 1-2mm.
Beautiful!
