I didn’t mean to claim that Toronto was more affordable than Montreal, simply that Toronto previous affordability allowed it to become what it is today.
It did allow Toronto to become the business capital of all of Canada. It was previously Montreal.
To my understanding, and a quick Google search, winnings are never taxed.
Spending $30 to own a brand new movie that just came out is not something I have a problem with.
However, not being able to download a copy of the movie you purchased is where I take issue.
That depends on the government in question. For example, the Canadian government does not have a claim on any kind of lottery or game show winnings.

I want my kids to have the tools they need to succeed, and I realize a smartphone has nearly become essential at a certain age, but they also control the lives of many people. Technology is an amazing tools, but it has been designed to be highly addictive. Kids have enough problems to deal with, and I don’t want to make things harder for them.

Absolutely! I only just bought my first house, which means I have a bit of a higher mortgage, but a house is simply a tool for survival.
