Not bad overall.
I was hoping for a release date for RE4 VR, but I guess I'll keep Feb '24 in mind and we'll see. I definitely wasn't expecting a DLC for Tales of Arise!
FF VII Rebirth still looks awesome and it's nice to have a confirmed release date, if anything.
I was also expecting more PSVR2 news/reveals, oh well.

As the RetroDECK team, we are deeply concerned by the rumors about how others have handled their dependencies and their relationship with those developers.

I haven't been following up with the Emulation scene on Steam Deck for a while, what is this in reference to?

I mostly disagree with your take.

  • PSVR2 is far more than a party trick and is arguably better than most PCVR headsets specs wise. There are games for it, you just have to look beyond AAA titles (and that's a very good thing IMO).
  • Sure, I also want new games, new IPs and fewer remastered collections, but as someone who never owned a PS4, I don't particularly mind the latter, provided the price is right and the upgrades are sufficient. New games take much longer to make nowadays and any title that's not received as well as expected could have a huge impact on a development studio, established or not.
  • The Portal is a joke, but it could be interesting if it turns out to be somewhat of an open device (for emulation purposes) and the comfort is there. But as an oob experience... No thanks.
  • I really think Sony is 100% to be pushing for more Indie titles on PS5, especially as PS Plus Extra day one releases. There are gems to be found there.

I've been using this fork for a little while now (since v4, so about a month altogether?) and apart from having to re-enable my "custom language keyboard" (French QWERTY) after every update, I honestly have no complaints.
Autocompletion is miles ahead of offline Gboard for my use case (switching between English and French constantly).

I would say it's more a "slow paced" methodical scrolling shmup than a bullet hell tbh. Most levels required a few retries for me, but there are some checkpoints and the timer is fairly generous imo, so you're able to make progress consistently.

Oh absolutely, I know I'm already part of a minority when I favour physical over digital media.
We're likely seeing the last (or, more realistically, second to last?) generation of consoles with physical media as an option and that's a bummer...
GOG is great on the PC side of things, but as someone with a Steam Deck as their only PC, it isn't always the best option (some games have been giving me a headache or end up straight up not working - eg I've had to rebuy Gris because the GOG version would show a white screen with any version of Proton I tried, while the Steam version was perfectly fine).

Used or loaned games (provided you have libraries offering them in your area) are still a huge benefit for (most, ie physical media "enabled") consoles.

The subscription model is broken by default, regardless of Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo, and is only good and cheap until it isn't anymore.

Agreed that consumers have a say, to some extent, however some are too far "into the ecosystem" to either care or be willing to boycott or make a change that would inconvenience them, so they'd rather give in.

I'm having a blast with Pocky & Rocky Reshrined!

considering that Sony doesn’t offer PS+ Day 1 Launches, unlike Xbox

They don't offer them as often as on Game Pass, but there are some day 1 launches on Extra.

As with most subscription models, the value proposition will probably decrease as we move forward (one only has to glance at streaming services to see what awaits us in the gaming space imo...). Bummer, but expected.

Yes, thank you!
Microsoft has historically never been profitably selling consoles, which is certainly part of their shift towards different business models, including Game Pass and a focus on more than just Xbox, but PC and Cloud as well. They don't really have much of a financial incentive to sell consoles for that sake alone, they have to get people to subscribe to Game Pass and/or buy games (possibly digitally whenever possible) and the Series S is their best console for that, as the consumer is very much locked in.

Oh, cheers for the heads up! They clearly should have named them differently.

That's unfortunately on par with what Dbrand would charge for it, so I'm not too surprised.
