Well they could get funding from the largest ad platforms in the world, sell user data, or subsidize with over priced hardware built with slave labor. At least if your comparing too Firefox, Chrome, Edge, or Safari.

A donation scheme built into the browser doesn't seem as bad to me in comparison.

Has his stances changed any since 2014?

Openinsulin is one of those donations that I never cancel the reoccurring payments too. It's a huge problem in the US but also places all around the world that even universal healthcare just here in the states wouldn't solve, but pushing for open development and lowering costs makes it easier for people not in wealth to get.

ChromeOS right? Is that the answer to the blogs unanswered question? Of what if Linux but supported by a MAANG company made for people who don't want to delve into computer science or engineering or tinkering.

I got into IT because troubleshooting Windows gave me a lot of experience. I don't think there is anything that comes to mind that would make apps less likely to have bugs then on Linux.

The only exception is gaming where a lot of game studios have years of experience with Windows APIs that they tightly integrated with in the past. Less needed now, but that's developer inertia for you.

Selective peering is a solution here some. Encryption by default and other "ZeroTrust" centered security modeling can make it more possible.

New bridge syndrome. New bridges are exciting, less cruft to work through, and you get a ribbon cutting ceremony. Fixing pot holes is expected and you make drivers mad shutting lanes down.

That said, volunteers that are up to it, bug fixes (and creating good bug reports too) and documenting code is generally seen very appreciatly by code maintainers, but for users of unpaid for FOSS products, you're going to get bugs and people will fix them when they feel like it.

If users want bug fixes in a certain time frame they need to pay somebody for SLA to fix bugs.

People need to be educated better on it, expected to be better, etc

Besides Rhode Island not a lot of state birds looking tasty 😅

But maybe on to something for options looking at state game birds, water fowl, and duck!

Man, that is both a huge list (I didn't even think about state mushrooms for example) and also surprising to see some states have none! You're right great heat start for a list.
