I have thousands of coins on my account. Coins used to be way more plentiful before awards got enshittified.
My layperson's understanding: something was fucky with the server database. It was frequently lagging out and taking down the whole instance.
@seahorse put a tremendous amount of effort and time into trying different potential fixes. We stan a true king, long may he reign.
When a fix finally worked, it had the side effect of fucking up some of the previously uploaded images. All things considered a price worth paying. The instance was almost unusable for me before.
I think /r/pics mod staff were told that they would be replaced if they didn't go public again. So they changed the protest to only allowing sexy pictures of John Oliver? And presumably that escalated to the admins throwing a hissy.
Any part of this could be misinformed tho, I haven't been back on that site.
Not everyone knows that if you flip up a Triceratops' tail they actually have a three prong outlet under there. Fully functional. Nature is really incredible.
