Changes to the settings often take a couple of attempts before they stick, at the moment.

Defederation with them will be a shot in the leg, and handicap the Fediverse movement itself. There will be users/instances in the current Fediverse that would want to federate with them, and banning such instances would create silos and echo chambers.

I don't quite follow this line of thinking. Instance A can still be federated with Instance B even if Instance B is federated with Threads.

The greater danger, IMO, is the open source Fediverse losing users to Thread because of the slicker interface and greater engagement.

If you like this, give the entire Welcome to Sky Valley album a listen. It's a modern classic.

Pretty much every Lemmy app currently in production let's you do this, tbh.

It's invariably either by a single press or a long press on the parent comment.

Not at all.

The effect of audio compression on perceivable sound quality is greatly exaggerated. Most people can't tell the difference between >256kbps lossy and lossless in a blind test, even with TOTL headphones.

There's an easy fix for this.

Settings > Recommendations > Show Your Liked Music From Youtube ~> uncheck

I never said they necessarily mean anything bad by it, though.

Regardless of whether your status as a foreigner is perceived as being positive or negative, you'll always be a foreigner.

Still way better than Google in terms of sponsored results and ads.

Won't anyone think of the nazis?!

If you're not too fussy about the details, perhaps.

The CPPCC is just an advisory body to the government; it doesn't wield much actual political power. Plus, all the minor parties in China are subservient to the CPC.

China is a one-party state, lacks an independent judiciary, and exerts strict control over the media and public expression of ideas. To call it "democratic" is somewhat perverse.

Name the last time there was a election in China where voters could vote for any party other than the CPC.
