Any computer that can run windows 11 can run any Linux DE without issue - you don't necessarily need a lightweight distro.

For that type of machine, I'd probably go with a reasonably up-to-date distro with either KDE Plasma or Gnome.

Nobara might actually be a good choice - it's Fedora but tweaked for gaming and media creation.

Why would I use KDE when Gnome is better? 😉

The GSConnect extension enables the same functionality on Gnome, btw.

"Yes it is - Russia peacefully took the land back in 2014 and now Ukraine and NATO are the bloodythirsty aggressors who have started a war there" - comments on lemmygrad, probably.

It's a rolling community distro that's also beginner-friendly. For instance, its package manager uses plain English terms instead of the unintuitive alphabet soup that Arch-based distros employ.

It also is the flagship distro for the Budgie DE.

I've tried it out a few times in a VM and there's a lot to like about it, but IMO the downsides are package availability (especially when compared to the AUR) and the dev team's rocky past. I'll be keeping an eye on it, though.

AccuWeather seems to work fine as a provider, but OpenWeather is totally broken for me.

Solid choices. Perpetual Black Second is another favorite of mine.

Fedora is a bit more complicated to install and configure, but once that's done it's not a difficult distro to use. And Silverblue makes it even easier to maintain than Mint as it's immutable.

Doesn't the Mint software center prompt for an admin authentication if you install a .deb package?

If so, an immutable OS like Silverblue would be technically more simple, seeing as flatpak installation doesn't require sudo.

For some reason, there are handful of tinfoil-hatters in this specific community who have been convinced that lemmy.world admins went to a clandestine meeting with Meta where bags of gold and hookers were handed out in exchange for selling out to Threads.

I'd just like point out the following comments to any of them who happen to be reading this, including OP:

Ruud answered your inane accusations, now please STFU.
