That's wrong. That's basically hate speech.

From the article though it's not clear that the Maccabi fans used physical violence against anyone.

By contrast, from the article,

there were numerous attacks, described by Halsema as “hit and run”, on Maccabi supporters across the city centre.

Footage showed masked youths on scooters and ebikes seeking out, chasing down and beating victims – mostly in Maccabi colours – until about 4am.

Five people were hospitalised and 20 to 30 slightly injured.

Undoubtably this is why the authorities ended up making arrests on both groups,

About 800 police made a total of 62 arrests before, during and after the match, mostly for public order offences. The city hall report released on Monday said 10 Israelis had been among those detained.

Finally,

“We failed the Jewish community of the Netherlands during the second world war,” Willem-Alexander said, “and last night we failed again”. The US president, Joe Biden, called the violence “despicable” and an echo of “dark moments in history”.

It's good that the leaders are aware of and want to avoid the mistakes of the Holocaust, or anything even vaguely resembling it. However, there should have also been a call against the earlier hate speech - Arabs and Muslims are also worthy and deserving of respect and protection.

Reading between the lines, the violence against the fans (which is still wrong - if nothing else, how do they know that the particular fan they tracked down was one of the ones shouting the disagreeable slogans earlier rather than one of the folks who signed onto https://www.democracynow.org/2024/10/28/israel/_intl/_law ) seems to have been a response to the earlier hate speech and demonstrations.

So if the authorities had the authority and done their job to prevent the former, then the later attacks might not have happened.

Why bother recruiting a spec ops group from a military that no country has really ever trained against

This is false, https://www.reuters.com/world/us-commandos-train-unexpected-north-koreas-shadow-2024-03-15/

whose been specifically trained to survive and resist coups and invasions without resources or supply lines?

No evidence yet that they've been trained for this. More that these troops have been trained for infiltration (but not as applicable to Ukraine where they'd stick out like a sore thumb) and assassination (which applies to specific targets, not a general all-for-all shoot-out) as per https://www.brookings.edu/articles/what-do-north-korean-troop-deployments-to-russia-mean-for-geopolitics/

The same reason Ukraine is using drones, duct tape, and grenades.

From what I've seen on this sub, Ukraine has some high quality military grade drones and grenades, among other things. And duct tape reminds me of MacGuyver - who takes on MacGuyver and wins?

All in all, Ukraine is much better off than North Korea,

https://news.sky.com/story/north-korea-defector-tells-of-escape-and-reveals-what-life-is-really-like-in-secretive-state-12851920

And this disparity will be reflected in a display of military might against North Korean troops.

They must be feeling the crunch though - otherwise why bother with North Korean troops?

I had to find work in Canada, but since I am a software engineer, I was able to take advantage of NAFTA (back when it was still called that) to help me do so.

Let us know how it goes. I'm curious to see how you manage to move forward on this. I'm aware of a lot of options here (e.g. https://www.linkedin.com/posts/vanhack/_working-remotely-from-canada-with-your-current-activity-7120340233904148481-GXUd ) but curious to see which one ends up being the right fit for you in particular.

Curious to see about this. I was in a similar situation ("offices and employees all over the world") but still could not get my company to sponsor me overseas, even though my direct manager and my skip worked really hard to try and make it work.

Will they exist in 2028? To me this is a bigger question that no one else seems to want to answer.

orange voldemort is already constitutionally ineligible to run for re-election but has expressed interest in running for a third time. Has anyone heard any plans about what may be afoot here to enable him?

My worst fears have been realized. Republicans have taken control of the House. There are now no safeguards.

Well, consider the numbers in https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/post/18340229

It's older so based on older numbers, but the estimates from there line up pretty well with the total sum as of right now.

Basically, if turnout was depressed, it was only in the deep blue (and maybe deep red) - where it didn't matter. In the swing states, turnout was higher for both sides in 2024 than in 2020 - and that's even before trying to account for the peculiarities of the 2020 vote.

The article really did the line up of the three posters so well though ...

But I am certainly troubled by those attacking the actress online for having these feelings. That's not right.

Agree with this - the fan just trying to make the movie poster imitate the older poster.

But I can see where the actress is coming from as well - these feelings are almost certainly part of the reason why the original movie poster from the studio decided to show the full faces of the actresses instead of imitating the 2003 poster in a more direct homage. It's a tricky balance, but at the same time it's hard to blame the fan for wanting to celebrate Wicked in art.

Here's an opinionated article on the subject that includes a copy of the modified image contrasting it to the original (and also the poster for the musical), https://worthitorwoke.com/wicked-star-cynthia-erivos-reaction-to-a-fan-made-poster-is-everything-wrong-with-celebrity-entitlement/

trump always comes with a price and since every country surrounding Israel hates them and is already allied with Russia…

Tell me again, which country paid that idiot to enact the Muslim ban?

It’s a price that’s probably too high to pay for Bibi.

First, it's likely something he'd get for free anyways. Second, he's already shown that he'd be willing to pay any price to continue the war in Gaza - even giving up on the hostages as their families demand more efforts be made on their return.

If Putin can hand the ME Israel, then they’ll back him in Ukraine too.

Depends on what you mean by "back" - maybe in terms of not publicly denouncing the Ukraine invasion but pulling a North Korea seems less likely...

Could you clarify this?

Either NATO steps up and it’s WW3 or Ukraine is fucked.

There's a third option, the EU steps up without use of nuclear arms and embraces the parts of unoccupied Ukraine. That becomes untouchable, and then from a place of greater security, Ukraine's battle turns to restoring what was taken, to take that back. (Well, this was largely already the focus, but the embrace prevents a major turn in Russia's favor.)
