@jonathan i sort of find the process of adding #hashtags part of my normal composition - as I mention a subject, place or thing etc. What if you could have the option.of viewing posts with the hashtags not displayed within the body but collected and displayed at the bottom? - #Friendica does the second part already in its webapp - perhaps this could.be an option for other UIs such as the native #Lemmy UI, the various flavours of #Racoon or the very good #Fedilab app.

@huppakee @SystemOfAnUp This is interesting as you point out one of the reasons that people use Credit Card Payment networks is the consumer protection that comes from credit contract legislation. That has a cost ( It costs the banks to provide the protection) which os recovered through the payment processing charges paid for by the merchant and I guess also offset by interest charges earned from the card user. But what if the card issuer could offer that protection independlty of the payment network and/or recover the cost some other way (either from the merchant or the card user)

@leraje Yeah I mean ideally it would be open source and self hostable - But lets not get into #PuritySpirals - Lets let a thousand flowers bloom.

@DarkSpectrum @LegoBrickOnFire Oh definintely - There is no way that any organisation is going to abandon everything for just ActivityPub right now. Thats what makes sociamedia management tools so critical to the wider adoption of ActivityPub. There are two main channels for content - Those tools and CMSs - More of both that support ActivityPub are required.

@leraje So the interesting thing straight away is that Fedica seems to allow me to register my Friendica server using the 'Mastodon' channel - I didn't have so much luck with Buffer

@DarkSpectrum Ah sorry man. Hope it doesn't look too bad - Its a while since I used Lemmy directly. Dangers of the fediverse eh?

@leraje Thanks - Didn't know about Fedica. I'll have to add it to the list of supported services (I really need to start a new website) - The freeplan acutally looks quite good.

@LegoBrickOnFire Ok you have really tipped my interest - Where are you located and are you a #nonprofit or a #charity ? - Feel free to DM me details if you don't want to post publically. I think your situation is really very typical - I'm interested in learning about your tech stack and how you approach things - This is a project I've discussed with a few partners already.

@LegoBrickOnFire Well if you are using Buffer then keep using it - that's a start - (you can add a Mastodon channel) - Later social (is that later.com?) - Whats the website ? we can easily check. Honestly until (and yes I know I bang on) brands really learn the value of Owned media (which if you are using your own domain - then ActivityPub stuff is really something you own) - then they won't understand the value of Activitypub. - I cringe everytime I see a brand/organisation Fediverse account not using its own domain. If you want them to not screw up - then I recommend a combination of their own server on their own domain and actually making an effort to engage on the topic area (without being spammy)

@LegoBrickOnFire Ok.. so just guessing that the key thing you might want to sell is the #Sociallistening / #engagement features of a solution alongside the value of #ownedmedia that ActivityPub brings. I think that your company is in a common situation. - Do you run a #CRM system?

[–] abeorch@friendica.ginestes.es 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

@meldrik @LegoBrickOnFire Please tell me you don't get the #ai features if you selfhost

@meldrik @LegoBrickOnFire What #CMS does your company have? What are you currently using for #Sociallistening / #socialmediamanagement ? Do you manage your own website? - Some background on these would help a heap.

Could simply creating a basic #ActivityPub server using #Wordpress or something else on your domain and then using a #crossposting to echo your #Twitter posts work as a starting point?

Anyone willing to recomend a provider who offers #domainname #nextcloud, #email and #wordpress #saas ? Ideally #uk or #eu. Its for a sporting club. #google and #microsoft are too expensive for about 30 users.

- I've just bought a #BananaPi R3. As an avid user of #Openwrt and #Yunohost I'm thinking that it would make sense to have the capabilities of both on that device since it has space for an #SSD - Does any one know of any projects that are bringing the features of both types of services together into one solution. i.e a lightweight home server and configurable router in one?

The following was asked on a #Mastodon forum on #Reddit - I replied and a sort of converation started. I felt that it wa better to have the discussion where others with valuable inside could chip in so I have- with the OP's permission posted the following:

For years I have the same question:

Is it useful to create your own Mastodon instance or any other fediverse instance?

Many admins say it is a lot of work and they put a lot of effort, money and energy in it. Some even close their instance after few years, because it is just too much.

After the new political development in the USA, the fediverse got a new wave of interested people from all over the world, but the question stays.

In my opinion it makes only sense if you already have a community, like, if you're an influencer or part of an NGO or similar projects with several people, who will support you creating and maintaining it with money and own time.

What do you think and do you own an instance or work on one?

- I really appreciate the OpenWrt forum but also like using an ActivityPub based account to browse posts on topics I am interested in.

I understand that forum OpenWrt uses Discourse which has some capabilities to integrate with activityPub services and have suggested in the forum that they are used but there doesn't seem to be much enthusiasm to do so.

Im probably not good at promoting the benefits or addressing points of concern.

What are people's thoughts?

- I'm not amazingly skilled when it comes to Linux but I'm working through installing and testing #imapsync - imapsync.lamiral.info on Debian following these instructions imapsync.lamiral.info/INSTALL.… - I'm a bit confused as it talks about example config files in a configuration directory but being a bit of a dunce I'm not sure where these would have been installed and where I should be creating config files for imapsync. My objective is to eventually sync my Gmail across to another email account I have via IMAP.

I think its great that independent media is available via satellite tv for Russian speakers. My thought - Should we be including a rqnge of russian language entertainment in those packages to attract audiences?
denisdiderot.net/svoboda-packa…

Im interested if people are finding anything witha similar form factor to Alexa Shows or Lenovo smart clocks that can run Linux ?

Im particularly interested in something with a decent speaker, integrated camera and display. Ideally 12v DC or POE powered.

I'm also looking for self hosted apps with pushtotalk or Dropin features.

I know I could probably cobble something together but ideally something well formed but would be cool.

What are people's thoughts / suggestions?
