Is there a pretty list of federated NodeBB forums anywhere? I like to check out which ones are listed on fedidb every now and then, but it's not the most convenient list as the topic of the forum is often obscure based on its name.

(I really enjoy being able to follow and participate in communities in forums around the web - thanks for making it possible!)

Yeah, the more one looks at these accusations the more it looks like a heap of bullshit. Thanks for powering through, I hope it doesn't cause you too much frustration. :)

Shouldn't we try to gift them our technology so they are better equipped to survive?

Looking at the state of affairs right now, I'm not entirely sure this is the effect the "gift of technology" has had. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if they end up outliving all of us.

group of people who don't want to compromise on any of their values

Of course I don't want to compromise my values in order to see growth of a platform that I use precisely because it aligns with my values.

The definition of UN should be simple enough:

In common language, “hate speech” refers to offensive discourse targeting a group or an individual based on inherent characteristics (such as race, religion or gender) and that may threaten social peace.

A related reading would be the paradox of tolerance, which goes far in explaining why we do not want this shit anywhere near our communities.

As for anti-Semitism, I've seen some of it in response to Israel's ongoing genocide, and of course the current context makes both anti-Semitism and anti-Muslim sentiments a very real problem. However, I think people on here mostly seem to be able to distinguish Israel and Judaism, and when they don't it seems moderators are generally doing a better job than on most platforms in my experience. But I doubt you're here in good faith, so I don't see much point in discussing something like this with you.

That's a pretty mainstream belief for a lot a people who have been completely ostracised and discriminated against by the fediverse as a whole.

If you feel discriminated against because people don't want you around, feel free to vote with your feet.

Hate speech has no place here, no matter how comfortable these creeps feel around their fascist politicians and policemen at home.

Hating Jews was "pretty mainstream" in the NSDAP.

Hate speech is hate speech no matter how many bootlicking pieces of shit might agree, and this is not a platform that's friendly to the miserable fuckers who have nothing better to do with their lives than to spread hate and intolerance. They have Twitter and Truth social to spread their shit.

And if we have fewer people over here because the fascists don't like us, well, cry me a fucking river.

I installed it myself on my FP5 (bought with Android in a shop) using the online installer, which was pretty easy and obviously free of charge.

They cooperate with Murena, so /e/OS is officially supported and you can buy new devices with /e/OS installed. I am running /e/OS on my Fairphone 5 and it works great.

They also seem to have given developer devices to the PostmarketOS folks, so that they hit the ground running with a working FP6 port already. I'm not sure exactly what is going on behind the scenes between Fairphone and PostmarketOS here - maybe @z3ntu@fosstodon.org can fill us in.

As a kid of around 10 when the movie came out, observing the circus around this movie passively from Europe was the first encounter with homophobia that I was ever somewhat aware of. I had grown up being told by adults that people are free to love whoever they want, and I never really saw any reason to doubt that premise. Watching the entire adultsphere have a complete meltdown over two cowboys kissing or something was deeply confusing.

On the positive side Mastodon is working on a fix.

If a social media account is spreading Russian disinformation - does sharing content from the account give it legitimacy?

No, says Carl-Oskar Bohlin, Minister for Civil Defence. But at the authority the minister is responsible for, the answer sounds different.

— In any case, you spread something that a foreign power might intend to spread to make us worried, says Mikael Östlund, press officer at the authority.

It was a year ago that Carl-Oskar Bohlin shared a tweet from the American influencer Lauren Southern, known for her far-right advocacy. The original video warned of how AI is used in influence operations, something the minister forwarded to his around 45,000 followers. "The ability and height of the impact operations risk increasing avalanche-like with disruptive technology shifts," wrote Carl-Oskar Bohlin on X.

Now, an American indictment against two Russian government employees shows that the production company Tenet media, where Lauren Southern is employed, must have been secretly financed by the Russian news agency RT. A total of just over SEK 100 million is said to have been transferred from the Russian state employees to the American company. In turn, influencers would push specific issues—such as questioning support for Ukraine—to their millions of followers. On YouTube alone, the videos have received more than 16 million views.

In light of the American indictment, Carl-Oskar Bohlin has been criticized for not checking his sources better. But the Minister of Civil Defense lets the tweet stay on X.

"For the simple reason that it is difficult to misunderstand." writes Bohlin to DN.

"One should of course refrain from spreading harmful narratives from foreign powers. However, it is a somewhat strange indictment that my warning about deepfakes and doctored videos would in itself constitute Russian disinformation. With such a threshold, it will be difficult to talk about or warn about the phenomenon at all," continues the minister.

Carl-Oskar Bohlin is responsible for the agency for psychological defence, MPF. Countering misdirection and misinformation, including rumor spreading and propaganda, is one of the agency's main missions.

In case you wonder, mr. Bohlin is from the conservative party (Moderaterna).

Makes me feel a bit better about my general political anxiousness.

Tom Waits is not afraid of going dark places with his song writing, but it hardly gets darker than this.

It's been spinning in my head a lot lately, for obvious reasons.
