Communism will either work, or our planet will fall apart. Capitalism is unsustainable, economically, ecologically and socially.
Feudalism, imperialism and monarchism were all part of the evolution of governance systems leading to capitalism.
After capitalism comes socialism, then communism. As a matter of political science, it is inevitable. Unless we cook ourselves to death first.
I love when people employ the Socratic method tactfully lol.
Then when one fails we get to say "well that wasn't true x". And the labels allow people to boogeyman an idea.
Essentially a No True Scotsman fallacy.
I think it's better to simply state that things like Stalin's USSR weren't communist. Period.
It wasn't "almost communist"; it was a dictatorship. So to say it wasn't "real communism" is like boiling a sock and saying it's not "real dinner". It's not dinner at all, it's a sock.
This is just speculation, but I assumed as a matter of respect, the R&M team would have given him a choice to step down or not. I don't see a situation where keeping him on would be worth the hassle.

This is the logical fallacy: Burden of Proof
The burden of proof lies with someone who is making a claim, and is not upon anyone else to disprove.
Stalin was a dictator - which is antithetical to the core principles of communism. You cannot be both a communist and a dictator, they are diametrically opposed.
It's a shame Lenin died right after the establishment of the USSR, he disdained everything Stalin became.
Communism is and isn't authoritarian. The establishment is, and the struggle to prevent regress into capitalism is, but for the people who aren't trying to exploit others, it isn't.
Authoritarianism ≠ fascism
Authoritarianism + ultranationalism = fascism.
Communism isn't anything like fascism. Communism, by definition, rejects nationalism, and considers every proletariat family, regardless of nationality and ethnicity. The only enemy of communism is the bourgeoisie (dictators and fascists foremost)
